Max Video Card for i7 920

I was running a 980 with my 930, I say was as it looks like my X58-UD3R board has died. I won't be able to do any thorough troubleshooting until Sunday though. Really annoyed about the situation because I just picked up a 6700k last week and was hoping to do some testing.

I would say crank that 920 up to at least 4.5ghz and run it for another couple of years. Get a stronger cooler if you need to

More or less impossible without extreme cooling, or sheer luck with the silicon. I watercooled my 930, overclocked to 4.2ghz and saw it regularly hit 90C on the core while gaming. Contrast that to a modern CPU, for example, the i7-5960X, even running that at 4.2Ghz only hits 45C while gaming with the same loop.

The X5660 is a 32nm and only hits around 50c gaming with those clocks.. I have tested the cpu to 4.5Ghz but I feel it not really needed as I just run it at 3.7 with a turbo to 4.1 24/7 .. I have heard some reaching 4.8Ghz which would be a 2000Mhz overclock..I really don't see the new i7- 6700k being an upgrade to this old tech myself as there are afew higher chips I can run like the 5670/80/90.

Also I would love to see what CX 290x would do on this old board with PCI Express x16 by x16 that is 6 years old as I know the CX 390x has been enjoying AMD's new drivers.

My two cents: I'm running my i7-920 stock, 12GB RAM with an MSI GF 970. I can run Far Cry 4 completely maxed out at 1920 x 1080 no problem. I also run the UT alpha maxed out extremely smooth.
