Hey all,

I'm looking for feedback from people that used a Nexus 6 as a daily driver (4+ months) and have switched to a Nexus 6P. Other replies are a appreciated but I'm specifically looking for a first hand review.

I absolutely love my Nexus 6. One of the only reasons I'm making this thread is because my ex-girlfriend couldn't locate a 64 GB Nexus 6 for Christmas 2014. It's the first Android device I haven't crack-flashed. Still running a Terminus AOSP 5.1.1 ROM from 1/28/15.

Well..... I recently drove over the phone with in my Fiesta. It still works but the screen is in need of replacement. This will be my second and "final" MotoCare replacement.

I am contemplating ordering a 64 GB Nexus 6P, using MotoCare on the Nexus 6 and then selling it here before the resale price much further.

I will either be ordering a 6P or doing an "advanced MotoCare RMA" next week.

Thoughts?

Thank you,

Michael

(Also, if anyone is truly interested in a refurbished 32 GB Blue Nexus 6 - please PM me for details/pricing. It would likely sway my decision.)

I went from a Nexus 6 to 6P and couldn't be happier. The 6P really is an awesome piece of hardware. On the 6 I was running the Pure Nexus Rom, I haven't done anything yet to the 6P.

I love that they included the LED notification light by default now. no need to root and lightflow or rom or anything to get it. I'm a huge notification light supporter. I don't want to constantly power up my phone or even touch it just to know if I got a notification. I can see the light across the room or my desk at work and know exactly what type of notification I have waiting for me.

The next killer item on the 6P is the camera. It's by far the fastest and best camera I've used yet (that's compared to phones I've had in the past, nexus 6, Note 4, Galaxy s6 and s5, and iphone 6 plus) The camera starts up so fast from a double hit on the power button and the low light capabilities are really good.

thirdly the finger print scanner on the back is awesome. It's super fast and it's been nearly %100 accurate for me. wet fingers is the only thing that really hampers it (but that did on any other finger print scanner I've used)

Thank you for the response CannibalTrout!
I'm glad you pointed out some things that I'm not used to having with the Nexus 6. I do miss that LED notification light.

You haven't done anything to the 6P? Haven't rooted? What about FDE?
What color did you end up with? The Graphite appears to be a finger print magnet.
What about differences in signal strength compared to the Nexus 6?

I'm really disappointed that the $50 "Valentine's Day Sale" on the 6P is only valid on the gold one.......

I recently broke the screen on my n6 as well. I thought about the 6p too. I can't imagine being happy with such a small cpu upgrade at full flagship prices... Especially with the good rumors for the Sd820. What sucks is I doubt anything launching with the 820 within the next month or so will be rootable. :(

I get what you're saying - but to be honest - I haven't had any performance issues (that I know of) resulting from the 805. I actually set my Max CPU frequency at 1958 MHz. The only "issues" I have had was from the FDE or from having less than 300 MB free space.

Also, the 810 isn't necessarily an upgrade from the 805. It is faster in short workloads but slower under sustained use.

The Adreno 430 appears to be ~50% faster than the 420.

Nope, haven't looked into ROMs yet for the 6P, the main reason I rooted/rom'd the 6 was to get the notification light under the speaker working. but it sucked compared to the native light on the 6P

FDE as in full disk encryption? I have it encrypted and haven't noticed any slowdown in anything. have the 64GB version and have 40GB free.

I went with the white, I have a spigen rugged armor case on it so it's mostly covered up. I think the white looks really nice, I like my phones in cases tho for the extra grip, but I'm kinda bummed since the white it a flat metallic shimmer white. Looks really good.(http://www.spigen.com/collections/nexus-6p/products/nexus-6p-case-rugged-armor)

Signal strength seems to be the same, but the wife says my called are clearer on the 6P.

As for speed, I haven't really looked/worried about what generation CPU is onboard basically ever with my phones. I don't do anything that power heavy on a phone. That's what I have a fully loaded up to date i7 gaming rig for with my triple 24" monitors vs my little under 6" cellphone.

I agree - the notification light is a big plus. That's about the only thing I miss from my Galaxy Nexus.

Yes. Full disk encryption. The 6P is supposed to faster than the 6 is with it enabled.

I like the White, Aluminum and Graphite. I'm going to debate this purchase for the rest of the day. I'll probably end up ordering the 64 GB Graphite and the case you linked. Thanks for that!

Good to know. I know Motorola is usually regarded as one of the best for antenna placements/signal strength.

I agree with you. The 6 was fast enough for me. The 6P will be fine.

Thanks again!

Im considering the 6p. running a year old droid turbo.. and battery life used to be great, sux now. haven't had a nexus phone yet.. and pure android is sounding attractive now after years of carrier bloat etc.

Pure android is really nice, it runs so smooth and fast. I used to have a Note 4 prior to my Nexus 6, and now 6P. I certainly don't miss Touchwiz.

Although...I do miss two of the Samsung apps. The Gallery app, and their file manager. I hate google photos with a passion and also can't stand es file explorer.

I don't get it why Devs can't just make simple apps like the Samsung Gallery or file manager. Why does every app dev have to make this all encompassing app that's a file explorer and media player and file uploader and backup utility and blah blah blah. What's wrong with just making a simple kick ass app for a single purpose. like exploring files?? I don't need it to also have a built in RAM cleaner or any of that useless crap.

There's however many 100k apps on the play store and like %99.9 aren't even legit apps. it's like every single app does 1/10th part of what it's meant to and the other 9/10th part of the app is scam/bloat/malware. gah

A very kick ass file explorer for Android is Total Commander. If you are still looking for one.

ES File Explorer is pretty bad in that regard (I use a paid app because ES is so bad). With that said, you could use Root Browser (not Explorer) for a free and simple file manager.

Quickpic used to be good (and I still use an old version) so if someone knows a suitable replacement I'd like to know too.

I ordered my 64 GB Graphite 6P last Friday from the Play Store and two USB Type A to Type C legacy charge cables + the Spigen case CannibalTrout linked.

Everything arrived yesterday. I booted the phone up, accepted three OTA updates, rooted it and tossed PureNexus on it.

The device is basically what I expected it to be. The 6P feels better in my hand, has a much better camera (double tap power button to camera launch speed is impressive), working notification LED and it SITS FLAT ON A TABLE.

I never realized how freaking annoying that was with the Nexus 6.

Overall I am very pleased. I thought the fingerprint scanner would be gimmicky, but the scanner's placement makes unlocking the device much more fluid.
I actually have a stronger LTE signal in my basement with the 6P. I was impressed with 50 down and 7 up in a basement.

I still use ES File Explorer. Switching back to classic view and disabling the recycle bin is a must.

What pisses me off more is that Google wants you to use Inbox (which blows monkey nuts IMHO), yet Gmail app is still being updated.

Google Hangouts is asking me if I would like to try out Google's new SMS app - Messenger. I use Hangouts over SMS/MMS when possible. Why would I want to use two applications when the Hangouts app conveniently allows me to merge my Hangouts/SMS conversations?

Google Photos sucks as well. I just realized that there are some photos "available" on my device that I probably should not have anymore.

Google Now takes one more step to see your cards now? Why do I have to press and hold the home button and then tap another icon?
