Alright so I can't get this Lenovo TS440 to see a hardrive to install windows so I have tried two different clone versions and it BSODs each time. The clones come from a Lenovo TS140. This is the BSOD I get. Any Idea?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ycx0vfd5ycmbntt/2016-01-24 12.46.25.mp4?dl=0

I have used an SSD and HDD (tried both) in SATA 0 and SATA 1 with the clone and blank for trying to do a direct install. When I try to install windows it says it cant find a hard drive or soemthing (see other thread below). I originally thought it was the install media but the install media worked on the TS140 so its related to this PC. When I install there is no HDD/SSD but it shows up in BIOS.

I am at a complete loss and have no idea what to do and i really could use help.

I dont think its the media becuase the exact same media DVD and usb works on the TS140 and a clone from the TS 140 BSODs on the TS440.

Thanks for any help. At this moment this PC is completely SOL because I cant figure out how to get it to work.

Yep.

BSOD STOP error 0x0000007B is due to missing controller driver.

thanks...thats weird to me. I have never had that problem with an install before. I will try to fix it next weekend when i got time. Wasted too much time this weekend working on it and another project.

In the old days, (Windows NT, 95, 2000, XP, 2003) you had to have the disk controller (RAID) drivers ready to go on a floppy disk and then be ready
to hit F6 during a 5 second delay and force the OS setup to look at the floppy disk for additional disk controller drivers. It's been a while since I
had to do controller drivers on a Win-7 setup, but you can have the drivers on a USB drive.

Just did a 2012 R2 Server install on a new Dell server yesterday..... the 2012 setup is very "polite" about asking you to insert a USB drive with RAID
controller drivers. I didn't have to hit the F6 key or anything, it saw the RAID controller (PERC S100) and asked for drivers.

The method to install the disk controller drivers during the OS setup will vary by OS version, but it's all essentially the same idea. The OS needs those
controller drivers very early in the install or it will get stuck or BSOD like it did for you. It can't see the drives without the controller drivers.

Most installs actually don't need the extra controller drivers since they are "standard" IDE/SATA controllers or the OS already has the drivers built-in
for the really common controllers (Intel, etc.).

its weird becuase i tried to do drivers before but in the spot that says browse for drivers the only thing that is visible is the windows install OS. I cant see the DVD ROM or a usb.

when i get a chance to try this again if i get stuck i'll take a picture

Make sure it's a USB 2.0 drive on a USB 2.0 controller and connected when you power up the machine.
I don't think it will see a USB drive inserted while setup is already running.

i used a usb 3.0 drive for all windows installs so far. I tried doing it on a DVD too and with drivers on a DVD and nothing. But i'll go back and try again maybe i missed something.

Is it possible for me to install the drivers on an already running windows on the TS140 and then get it to load on the TS440?

I guess I misunderstood on the USB thing..... I thought you were saying you couldn't see
USB drives during the install, so I was thinking that setup wasn't seeing the USB 3.0 controller.
I agree that if you are installing from a USB 3.0 port, then that shouldn't be an issue.

Though I can think of a situation that it still may be..... the BIOS provides USB 3.0 support to
boot setup, but I'm thinking that still doesn't guarantee that the Win-7 Setup.exe has USB 3.0 support.

Possibly, yes.

I've done that before on servers..... install on a single SATA drive and then add the RAID
controller with no drives connected just so I can get the drivers installed in the OS build.
Then make an image of the original install drive and use it to image the RAID array.

Sounds like you're getting close on this.

thats the weird part. If i use a DVD or usb 3.0 drive. The windows install works until it says missing drive drivers and when i browse all i see is IIRC drive "x" which looks as if its a windows root drive. I assume it is the windows OS installer source folders or whatever.

I don't see anything else though. No USB, no DVD rom...nothing so I didnt know how to even get the drivers to install when i tried a DVD and usb with the drivers. When that happened thats when i posted on here because i have never seen this before.

Thats why I tried using a preinstalled windows but that BSODed with the message above. so thats why I will try to use that lenovo install directions next but if that doesnt work or is complicated i am just going to try doing a preinstall OS with drivers on the other lenovo machine and then move the drive over.

sorry if i am not explaining this well. It is easier to show in pictures and i'll do that later so if anyone else has this issue they can see what i did.

the X: drive is the either the boot.wim or install.wim image (I can't remember which) that's been mounted as a drive to start the installer.

If you haven't checked already, make sure you have the SATA modes correct in the BIOS. This will cause this issue. usually the ssd is AHCI and hdd is IDE.

Good point.
I didn't think to mention that, but that could easily be the problem too.
