i7 4770

Better than just decent. There are a few better CPUs but not by much.

Great processor. Why wouldn't you use it??? Depends on what you use it for, but it handles graphic design and editing well.

Man, I wish I had relevant $300 processors just sitting around the house. :D Get a cheap mainboard and some ram and you will be set.

Im glad i was able to give everyone a good laugh ive been out of the "building a computer" game for awhile I'm work in the IT field which is sad my home computer is a E6600 c2d which needs to be upgraded ASAP ...

In that case, a good Z97 board, 32 GB of DDR3 1600 speed ram and a R9 390 or Nvidia 970 would be good. Ram is getting cheap again and you can get 32GB often for $130 on sale at Newegg.

Is there a big difference between Nvidia 970 - 980 ?

At 1080p, not a real lot but at 1440p, absolutely. I have a 980 Ti now which is literally very close to twice as fast as the 290x it replaced. (However, I am playing at 4k.)

I have a spare i7 4770 lying around is this processor still decent ?

I have a spare one too. It was suppose to go into a new lanbox to replace an old one but I never got around to building it. Now I'm wondering whether to use it or buy a newer 6600 or 6700 chip.

You start a thread asking if a 4770 is decent and now you ask this? Nearly 11 years on the forums and you know nothing about hardware at all? Hell apparently you dont even know how to use google as you could have easily answered your own questions.
