Everyone has seen a 404 and 502 errors but have you seen a 451 error? You might be seeing more of them soon as more people are starting to use the error code to let you know when a site is being censored.

The newly published 451 code (a nod to Fahrenheit 451, naturally) lets site hosts and network providers warn you when censorship and similar "legal obstacles" prevent you from seeing web material. In theory, this gives you a much better explanation than the generic 403 "forbidden" code -- and a not-so-subtle hint that you need to jump through hoops to get the truth.

Invisible censorship is one of my biggest pet peeves, including the seemingly universal "shadow censorship" that is prevalent these days, where the poster doesn't realize no one can see their post.

yup, i first saw that on reddit during gamergate. i didn't even know shadow banning was a thing until then. i guess free speech is only a thing if it happens to be in line with the mainstream opinion (of those in power).

Free speech has always only been a thing if it's on public property, and that's the way it should be.

Do you really expect free speech on other people's sites? This site certainly doesn't provide it - Kyle's pretty strict (something I'm generally thankful for).
