Question about internet speed and gaming

My buddy has high speed internet from Comcast. One of his friends is telling him to get the new google high speed which is faster.

My question is is there a point of diminishing returns as far as ping in online games? I mean its only going to go so fast right? My thinking is if he is not even using all that Comcast gives him in game then how is more speed and bandwidth going to do anything?

The only thing it will change is the speed at which he can download games. Gaming doesn't take much bandwidth.

Well Google fiber could potentially lower his ping times, not just offer insane bandwidth.

What is his ping like right now?

he gets decent pings not between 40-60 depending on what server we connect to in Black ops 2.

It is google fiber. Its not offered in my area

Will make literally 0 difference.

I had 512k/128k dsl years ago and that worked great for gaming as it had low latency. (Sub 30ms)
