OneNote syncing/sharing... Why can't I keep a copy on my HDD?

So it seems to me that the only option I have for syncing or sharing a notebook via the cloud is by moving my notebook to OneDrive. "Moving" means the same as cut and paste, right? I don't get it: why can't I also retain a copy on my local HDD? Ideally, I would like to keep my notebook on my computer while there's another copy on OneDrive, and whenever I edit either one they synchronize. Why is it not possible like that? Or is it? It seems like I'm forced to upload it, and my local copy gets deleted... Isn't that kinda silly?

The OneDrive folder contents are still 'local' to your computer. So moving your notebook to the OneDrive folder is the same as moving it locally to another folder. If you want it to sync, well OneDrive syncs the content in the OneDrive folder.

Microsoft actually states specifically not to do that. Apparently it will generate an error.
