Germany's highest court of appeals earlier today ruled that Apple's patents covering the "slide to unlock" feature are invalid.

In a statement, the appeals court said it confirmed a ruling by the lower Federal Patent Court that canceled Apple's German patent, based on the technique's similarity to a phone released by Swedish company Neonode Inc a year before the iPhone's 2007 launch. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
 
A court actually invalidated one of Apple's patent for something Apple copied?
Amazing.
Of course this isn't a US court, so maybe there is still a little judicial common sense left in other countries.

It could end up being applied to the whole EU... that would be pretty damaging to Apple I suspect
 
I dont think a patent should be granted to anyone for something like this. On a touchscreen device with no physical buttons this is akin to a power button. Could you patent the power button to turn something on and off? Slide to unlock is one of the only logical mechanisms for unsecured unlocking of your phone. There's just no other idea to accomplish this task.
 
Im surprised other companies are still allowed to make mobile devices. Apple has a patent for the cell phone, tablet and MP3 player since they invented them, right? (yes, /s)

It is EXACTLY the same as the iPhone. Although the method in how the device detects the finger is different.

Its a good review to watch though....an advanced phone for the time.

Yep. The N1M is what Samsung held up in court during original trial. Fuck AAPL and their "we invented everything"
