I've been having problems with my 1.5 TB Green WD for about a year now. On Windows 7, sometimes it would go unresponsive and I couldn't access it. Restarting/letting it do a chkdsk would fix it. Ever since switching to Windows 10, sometimes when accessing the drive it will completely lock up, also bringing Windows 10 to a crawl with it.
But this time when I restart and Windows 10 goes to do a repair, it will either sit there at the Windows 10 loading screen or flash to a black screen that goes nowhere when it goes to do a Windows Start up repair. I have to boot from a completely separate drive I have (640 GB WD Black) with a Windows 7 install on it for it to do a chkdsk. After that I can switch the boot device back to my main SSD and it will start fine.
Why is Windows 10 having problems doing a chkdsk when the drive screws up? Why is Windows 10 taking a performance hit when my storage drive is locked up with 100% usage?
Also, I'm currently doing a error scan on my WD Green and it has been stuck at 4545 files processed now for about 2 hours. Should I just give up on this drive?
