$500,000 for a Wikipedia bookset? What a bargain.

"We don't need to see the whole thing in order to understand how big it is." A celebration will ensue when the whole shebang is uploaded, complete with toasts and a showing of the "Buy It Now" button, which will advertise the complete set for $500,000.

Why? ... if we could ever channel some of the creativity, money, and effort we use for pointless projects, imagine the things we could accomplish :(

Perfect for the snobs to brag about how they had to add a new wing to the home library because they just got the hardcover to Wikipedia.

*thinking about it. It'd have been a cooler project if they just installed a nook/kindle in a hollowed out encyclopedia and then had the entire site cached to it (for internet free access).

An inaccurate biased subjective poorly informed often lying pile of..?
It'll sell in droves.

i've thought about this many times, and have wondered why there isn't some sort of open source project to download all of wikipedia for offline use

i have looked into how much space it would take to store wikipedia, which is also difficult information to find

i should have mentioned that i found a bunch of tools to do this, but what i'd like is one that has a web server built in, so i can access it locally as if it was wikipedia.org

In other news, Brazil has officially privatized the entirety of the Amazon rainforests.

Even in print, Wikipedia will never be accepted as a reliable source in academia or any other field worth its salt. Nice try, though.

If something goes wrong with our Sun and we get hit by a massive solar flare, then the guy with the wiki library is one of the only ones with the knowledge needed to restore civilization. If I were one of the 1%, I'd definitely invest in something like this.

The problem is, you have to buy a replacement set daily or you're out of date!

i'd have to be in the .01% to be this nutty...

why not just download it to your PC and put that in a farady cage with some solar panels...
