Doom teaser schedules E3 gameplay reveal

I've seen longer teasers that show nothing at all so I'd still classify it as a teaser. I hope this game's engine is nothing like Idtech 5, preparing for disappointment.

Weird, I didn't know that. Were they publisher for Doom3?

Doom 3 was published by Activision. After that, id Software was acquired by ZeniMax, the parent company of Bethesda. With that acquisition, all future id games will be published by Bethesda.

The BFG Edition and console port of Doom 2 were published by Bethesda. Have you been living under a rock? Zenimax acquired publishing rights to id Software back in 2009...

Actually looks pretty good.
The lighting effects don't remind me of idTech5.

I have a beta invite somewhere because I bought Wolfenstein last year....

I'm looking forward to this game...I just hope it's not a disappoint.

Co-op please

I liked thrashing through doom with friends

wow that looked like crap, no doom feeling at all so nice to see that shit scrapped..

Well, I think I'd prefer what they're working on now, but that still looks like it could be fun. Kinda like RageDoom or something. I'm guessing they were going for the Doom 2 "Hell on Earth" sorta thing with that iteration. (forgive me if they actually came right out and said it in that trailer, at work with sound off)

That's the vibe I got. Would have been okay with that. As long as it's still scary. I fucking loved Doom 3 and how dark and claustrophobic it was.

Was I the only one that right after the initial monster attack, would stand in quiet lab rooms and listen to the noise going on elsewhere in the facility? Gun fire, barking orders, explosions, screams... great atmosphere.

Doom 3 is actually one of my favorite games of all time. (in the top 15-20 at least) It has a few minor flaws, but it's a really well thought out shooter, the atmosphere is thick, the machinery is incredible and vast. I often come up to machines like the big spinning reactor, and just stare at them for what is probably way to much time. :D

Yes, I also sit and listen to things like you. :D Also, when you're crawling through vents, and you first hear the ticking of spider legs, and start seeing faint signs of the webs. Ugh... Good stuff! The claustrophobic feeling really pushes it over the top. People complained that it was corridor shooting, but what exactly does one expect from a Martian science installation? :D It really gives that close quarters, slow down and peek around corners feel.

One of my favorites, too. I enjoyed it a lot more than Half-Life 2. It took me about a week to get through Doom 3 my first time after purchasing it the day it was released. I never actually finished Half-Life 2 through to the end for the first time until 2011, despite having purchased it the day it was released in 2004. In my opinion: the sound design, atmosphere, and gameplay progression is superior in every way to HL2.

That being said, the BFG Edition is an abomination and an insult to the original game. It should have never been released on PC. If you have never played Doom 3 before and are thinking about purchasing it, do yourself a favor and grab the original. The only thing BFG has going for it is proper 3D support, but it doesn't outweigh all the negatives.

Agreed!

As for the BFG edition, I play it a bit, but only on my living-room PC. It's a little better for that one scenario. Otherwise I use the original with or without my slightly modified version of Sikkmod. (I like most of that mod, but a few things are a little unbalanced, so I rebalanced them...)

I bought the BFG edition thinking it was just a re-release, but I knew I made a mistake as soon as I started playing. The biggest problem I had with it is the taped-on flashlight which was complete bullshit and for some reason it just feels/looks different from the original multi-disc I had back in the day.

But from what you're saying it has better controller support? My PC gaming has be relegated to living-room playing so on my HTPC I only have games from my Steam Library that have "Full Controller Support."

It may actually be that the original had controller support, but I never tried it. I got the BFG version because it was $5 on sale, and I thought I'd see what was different about it. I just happened to play it on the living-room PC, and was happy to see everything accessible with the game pad. On my main gaming PC, I only use a KB/M, and that one has the original installed. I'd be hard-pressed to come up with any extremely noticeable differences between the two just off the top of my head, but I'm sure plenty exist. (ignoring of course the obvious gun-light) However, the original with a few mods, is night/day. I typically install some visual mods (or Sikkmod for an easy rollup of things) go into the weapon def files and tweak the masses of projectiles, turn on the plasma gun lighting, alter clip sizes and impact, etc. until combat feels good. Can't install the mods on the BFG version. (at least from the little I've tried to do with it)
