Hell yeah! I was on the fence about upgrading to Windows 10 before but, now that I know this, I am upgrading for sure! ;)

Get your best “back in my day” grumble face on: Solitaire and Minesweeper might’ve been good enough procrastination tools in times past, but Microsoft is getting hip to the times, and will pre-load Candy Crush Saga into its upcoming Windows 10.

Well I assume it will be the 'app' version so I'll either never see it or just click 'uninstall' and...never see it.

Plus as my versions of 7 and 8 are all Pro I would assume that it doesn't come with 10 Pro and just with the home version?

Wait, they're installing freemium malware into the base os?

MS demographics have certainly changed over the years, shoulda bundled with minecraft.

I'm sure most enterprise images will have this removed.

Is this how they are monetizing Windows from here on out? Get rid of 3 year releases, but include sponsored applications in the base OS?

I played the game for a while, and it was fun. I got bored long ago with it. Just seems like a money grab. If it were a first party game and not a paid for sponsorship, I'd be fine with it.

I hope it's just the mobile OS version. Desktop don't need that crap.

That makes way more sense.

It's Microsoft, what do you expect? :)

They desperately want people to use modern-UI apps. All they can think about is that sweet, sweet app store money. I guess they still haven't figured out that there won't be a bottomless gold mine of app store revenue as long as they have ~0% mobile market share.

I didn't mind MS putting Weezer's "Buddy Holly" on the Windows 95 disc especially since it didn't install it on my 424 MB hard drive back in '95!!

Guess Microsoft was looking for something to sweeten the Windows 10/Forever deal. Making a fast, lightweight OS that didn't get in my way would be a nice change of pace.

Waiting for heatlesssun to tell us how this was absolutely critical for Microsoft to remain relevant in an increasingly touch-centric environment and for growth. Non-inclusive Candy Crush operating systems are a dying market. Just look at the numbers!

Hasn't Windows included bundled games for years?

They need to drop this and bring back Space Cadet 3D Pinball!

I really hope they're not dropping Solitaire and Minesweeper to try and force people to play this crap.

But, hey, it's ported to DX12! This is for the gamers!

Holy crap, there's a flashback. I remember finding this and being excited to show my dad after we first installed W95 on his PC. I was 12 years old at the time. Packard Bell prebuilt with a P5 Pentium running at 66 MHz, 4MB of RAM, and an 80MB HDD. He had to move to W95 for work, so he also upgraded the hardware to 8MB of RAM and a 200MB HDD in preparation for it. I think it took us a solid week of work to get it running in a satisfactory state.

Not touch-first tablet-optimized games
If only it was cloud-based and built on Azure...

Touch-first tablet-optimized doesn't really mean a lot with certain games. Think about the classic solitaire. There's really nothing touch or keyboard and mouse centric by nature about it. CC is pretty much the same kind of thing. Indeed CC started out as a FB flash based game for desktop browsers.

This is a really good idea actually... If they gave minecraft away with the OS, they'd absolutely sell more licenses. (assuming market share and overall adoption is what they are going after)

I'm just saying:
The PC NEEDS this desperately to appeal to consumers. I know many of you look at that as somehow a bad thing, the lowest common denominator but tell me how more PCs are supposed to sell being complex only things?
and that this ...
actually allows one to do more across a wider variety of form factors and input methods.
and...
So at the end of the day, Microsoft has to move Windows forward, I don't think any rational person can argue against that. And with any big change to a product as old and popular as Windows resistance is inevitable.
So that's why we need Windows 10 to come pre-loaded with Candy Crush.

I've been playing it in the game's website (not Facebook) for like a while now and OMG this is great news! Candy Crush has got to be like one of the most fun games out there and the player population is absolutely huge compared to pretty much everything but Angry Birds. It's great that Microsoft is finally bundling something fun.

(And no, for all you grump-wumps out there, you don't need to pay anything to play it ever. You just have to be patient and mature.)

We got rid of windows media center, but don't worry we included candy crush a pay 2 win game. That should replace WMC.

It's their own fault for giving the upgrades to 10 for free ... now they have to make that money back some other way ;)

fine then this game better have anti aliasing, surround and eyefinity support, anti aliasing, and be ported to either cry engine, unity, unreal, cryengine or the frostbite engine+include 64 multiplayer games.

God bless 'em, this is the kind of thing that happens when you put women in the Microsoft Windows loop...;) "Oh, isn't that a cute little game! I know! Let's put it into Windows 10--it's adorable!"

It's also the kind of thing that happens when a game has half a billion downloads.

Regardless of how popular it is, it still doesn't serve any purpose to include them. Otherwise, if Microsoft starts including every popular apps out there, then Windows 10 is going to be filled with bloatware. That's not a path Microsoft needs to go down to.

I'm ok with Microsoft integrating their own software like media player, web browser and anti malware into their OS, but we don't need them to become an advertising platform for others.

I've never used Media Centre (well that's going thankfully), XPS viewer, Fax & Scan, DVD Maker, Snipping Tool, Sound recorder (not since 3.1), Sticky Notes, Sync centre, Magnifier, Narrator, Windows Powershell, Remote Desktop and many many more.

But they still all install by default.

Would be nice to go back to a Windows 98 style install where you could delete out the stuff that wasn't essential.

Have to wonder how bad they're hurting to have to resort to this. Making Win 10 free will cost them billions :(

It will cost them but MS has got pretty good recently at working out where to lose money to make more money in the long run.

By doing this it will get more people up to a new platform and once they've used 10 on their old hardware they may well be tempted to get new hardware to go with it. Plus if they hadn't given it away most of those domestic/small business folks on 7 probably still wouldn't have budged so what have they got to lose?

But at the end of the day MS makes most of its money via Office and Windows on the Enterprise which AFAIK isnt going to be given away.

They've run the numbers, it will work out for them in the end.

My guess is in the next 18 months they will relaunch the MS Signature series with their own laptops and desktops like Apple. I look forward to that. MS designs/makes nice hardware. This way they get a far bigger cut of the sale of a new PC like Apple does.

Wow, such emotionalism for a game you probably do not play anyways. :D Interesting thing is, I played this game with a mouse mostly which pretty much leaves your point no where in reality. :)

Wow, you sure have a lot of time invested in this. Thanks for the laugh, I needed that. :D (I am laughing at your invested time if you did not notice.)

I don't play it but isn't it popular with both genders? I see something like FarmVille mainly catering to a female demographic but candy crush? Isn't just like have solitaire or minesweeper on windows? What's the big deal?

Candy Crush is Bejeweled remade only aimed even more so at little girls. It is basically the time waster game version of my little pony. So I pretty much view guys who play this as in the same camp as "brony's". Whatever to each their own if you want to pretend to be a little girl for a couple hours more power to you.

I think it is dumb to include, but really I don't care that much. It will be easy enough to strip out of the image before I install anyhow.

I am sorry, I was not aware your view on that was important? :D
