AMD R9 290x Pixel Issues in games

I've noticed a few times in the past on games like Fallout 3 and New Vegas, where if I had any MSAA turned on I got very pixelated vegetation. Now I seem to be having the same issue in GTA V. I'm playing GTA V on the max setting getting a good frame rate, but I'm having the pixel issues again and it kinda ruins the game for me. I have these great graphics then I just see these ugly pixel on the grass mostly.

I've tried adjusting the game setting, and I can't seem to find which is causing the pixels. I've tried turning on and off all three forms of AA in the game and nothing helps. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this ?

I'm running an R9 290x with the latest 15.4 beta drivers.

You're going to have to use the zoom tool on Photobucket to see the issue.

Here the pixels are on the railing going down the stairs.

This is how the grass looks when it rains

This one is probably the best look at how the grass looks for me.

its OK, its a well known issue with AMD graphics cards and some AA settings..

Dont recall mine ever doing this:eek: You sure that's ok? Thought MSAA was supposed to make it look better

playing at a 2560*1440 VSR resolution on my 1080 monitor fixes the issue for me

don't know if a lower VSR resolution will do the same

I know its a fairly well known issue with AMD due to the type of AA they run. They however patched it in some of their drivers. I was just hoping someone else had a fix for GTA V as its pretty much the only game I play these days.

MSAA generally does not touch grass/vegetation and alpha textures. (see through fences or special effects) Only polygon edges get smoothing. I remember someone mentioning that MSAA is borked with AMD though I am not sure. Try disabling it and use FXAA instead. If you are allergic to the blur FXAA causes add some VSR and render the screen in higher resolution. The blur is added to the hires picture and is lost in the downscaling process. It also greatly enhances antialiasing quality. If you are used to using MSAA you should have enough horsepower for VSR/DSR and FXAA combo, which to be honest looks much better too since it antialiases EVERYTHING.

This is GTA 5's method of dithering and anyone who doesn't use MSAA/downsampling will see it.

Have you tried just VSR? I don't use any AA with VSR @1800p on a 1080p monitor.

They have me curious how it would look using these ideas.....be cool if you could post follow up screenshots to see how much better it looks

Is this just a GTA issue? I haven't played that yet but graphics look great off my 290x on the games I do play like Crysis 3, Borderlands 2, Dead Space 3 and the like.

Maybe its just something Ive never noticed. Looking at the pictures in the OP, I can barely see what he's talking about. There may be an upside to getting old after all. :D

Have you played GTA 5? It's drastically noticable in-game, quite terrible.
At the very least 2xMSAA is almost a necessity. Either that, or crank the advanced draw distance all the way up.
