Kingston 240 ssd $84

Aren't these v300's are the ones with the shady nand switched in after reviews so they perform a lot slower than advertised?

Since I won't be the first one pooping on this deal, I think it is worth it for anyone looking for a new SSD in this price range to spend just a little bit more on a Samsung 850 EVO, Crucial MX100/BX100/MX200/M500/M550 etc in that $90-100 range.

Kingston HyperX SSDs are solid but the red label ones tend to be budget underperformers.

I would also throw the PNY drives into the hat. Some, like the Optima, may not be the best performers, but they were intended since design inception to be budget drives ...and they use superior synchronous NAND unlike the V300. I've had an Optima 240GB running for a little over a year now without a single problem. Good friend of mine has an XLR8 Pro 240GB for about 10 months and zero problems.

Too bad the 850 EVO went back to regular price already. I wanted to buy more of them.

Stay away from the V200 SSD. I own a small PC repair store and we have had to RMA half of the drives. The 850 EVO is the way to go. Long warranty, if RMA is need they supply an overnight UPS label and ship you back via overnight as well. 3 Day turnaround.

I just had a customer that wanted their laptop fixed "TODAY". So I had to get a drive from officedepot and paid $205 for this drive. 240GB v300.
How worried should I be about the drive crapping out?

And yes they will be paying the "right now" price in labor.

Darksword I owe you one!!
After reading your post I took the receipt back to the store and got a $92.01 credit!!!

I had a V+200 crap out on me, so I RMA'd it and got a V300 in return. Speed is comparable, still good - don't worry about the naysayers. I can't speak for quality, only owned this one for 6 months now. But, if it's anything like my V+200, it did die. I'm hoping for the best though. Really kind of a bummer this drive has such a bad rep because it's marketed as a reliable business drive. Go figure.
