SOYO 24" DYLM24D6 Official Thread

0. you must do all this on Linux (at least I did), and you need to have sharutils (for uudecode) installed and a copy of https://github.com/bulletmark/edid-rw

1. save the following snippet of text into soyo_topaz_s.edid.uuencoded

START --->
begin 664 soyo_topaz_s.edid.uuencoded
M`/_______P!C&````0$!`3,1`0-H*1IX*LD%HU=+G"424%2C"``!`;,`J4"!
M@)4``0$!`0$!?4N`H'*P+4"(R#8`!D0A```<````_P!5-S4Q,44S-3<P,S`Q
F````_0`Y/Q]1____________________________________`&L`
`
end
<--- END

2. uudecode the soyo_topaz_s.edid.uuencoded into a working soyo_topaz_s.edid.bin file:
uudecode -o uudecoded.bin soyo_topaz_s.edid.uuencoded

3. sanity check the md5sum of the soyo_topaz_s.edid.bin file:
me@my-linux-box$ md5sum soyo_topaz_s.edid.bin
25b6ee2b74b7f9f24df119621ec678a3 soyo_topaz_s.edid.bin

4. write the 128-byte edid bin file to your monitor using edid-wr:
./edid-rw -w 0 < soyo_topaz_s.edid.bin

Years ago I bought a broken one of these off eBay. Power supply was dead so I replaced it. Then the DVI port wouldn't work, only VGA at a low-res. My hypothesis was the EDID was missing. I had to beg a forum member to dump his EDID so I could flash mine. It worked!

I'm just surprised to see that this actually happens!

I have one with the same issue - hosed EDID info. I actually have the EDID info, but I am unclear on how to reflash it to the DVI port. Did you use Powerstrip full version to resolve it ?? I haven't found a detailed guide on how to do this yet, so I hope you can help me out.

anybody have a schematic for this?

there's an 8-pin chip in the middle of the board that apparently has no markings, it's gone bad, but the guy says he knows it's the PWM drive chip.

Just got my Soyo Topaz S working via DVI last night. Ohh, the smile it brought to my face to see it working again after languishing in the parts dungeon for the past 2+ years !!

I purchased a used PSU off Ebay, then drilled about 18 holes in the back of the Soyo bezel, then mounted an Antec 120mm USB powered fan to circulate air into the PSU. I'm hoping this helps keep the PSU cool enough to last, but I have my doubts.

I also had forgotten how off the colors were on this panel. Everything had a blue tint to it, so I corrected that by dialing back the color temp. I let it run for 3 hours doing screen tests, but I'm still hesitant to retire my Acer 23" TN panel and use the Soyo in its place. Now to find a ribbon cable for panel #2 and try and get that one working too.

My refurb Soyo just started turning off/on after using it since 2008. What revision of power supply did you get from ebay?

Good question. I compared it to my Soyo PSU and I'd say they were identical, meaning this one is as prone to failure as the original PSUs. I know it is not the newer '311' revision that was so coveted by Soyo owners.

What I did to prolong its lifespan was drill about 15 holes in the back of the Soyo plastic bezel, then mount a USB powered 120mm fan to push air over the PSU through those holes. What killed these PSUs was the heat, with no way to vent it away from the unit. I'm hoping to find another PSU to get my second panel going.

I also have a HUGE favor to ask. Does anyone have a screw that holds the plastic bezel that covers the back panel onto the screen itself ? I got mine back from my friend without ANY of those screws holding it together, and I just need one to take and match up at the local hardware store, then I can return it to you.

So, I bought a used revision 311 from ebay and it arrived quickly. After I installed it, it powers on but no image. Just black screen :( Re-installing the old power supply I get clear image but it turns off/on every few seconds.

Any suggestions?

Upon further inspection, the old power supply had burnt ZD1 just like a few here experienced.

The 311 revision power supply might have a 2200uf 10v capacitor bulging out. Still lots to learn not being an electrical engineer.

Anyone want any broken, but fixable Soyo's? I'm happy to send them for the cost of shipping (from California) to whoever wants them for parts, or to fix up etc. They are in their original boxes.

Based on their symptoms, both have presumably shot PSUs, one of which also has a blown inverter as a result of an me trying a PSU that didn't deliver enough power. A while back I searched the part number stamped on the inverter, and some place sold them for a reasoanable price, but I never followed through. The panels are fine (one may have a dead pixel or so).

They were nice while they lasted (and one of my best Black Friday deals), but I just don't have the time anymore to fix them, and my 24" Asus Proarts (also 1920x1200) are more than capable replacements, and lower maintenance besides.

Just out of curiosity, what would shipping to 29210 be? I'd love to get one of these back, but I'm super poor.
