It would seem that Google+ has a new boss and has been officially split into Photos and Streams.

That's not to say that Google+ is dead yet—at least not officially. But it does suggest that Google is moving away from the pure Plus branding, which suggests an overhaul may be not too far off. Indeed, last week, speaking to Forbes, Google's senior vice president of products Sundar Pichai, said that "I think increasingly you'll see us focus on communications, photos and the Google+ Stream as three important areas, rather than being thought of as one area." Clearly, this news separates out Photos and Stream, with the communications element—presumably Hangouts—already a separate entity.

google+ is still a thing?

lol yeah and it is pretty annoying that they poorly integrated photos from both Drive and Android into it...

I really really hope this is a sign that they are going to put photos back into its own app (as it were), either back into existing picasa or a new replacement.

Then imo the next logical step would be to do a proper integration with Drive, which would have at least support for normal/typical file structure and sync to workstation options that would allow.

Then of course integrate upload options for android phones to drive.

Personally I think how android/google currently handles photos is a good example why customers believe Apple "just works" and is easy to use.

I had to find a 3rd party app to sync my google OS generated photos to my google cloud service in a way in which they can be adequately organized/edited (as files in my cloud storage) etc. Photos is such a commonly used feature of mobile devices these days I am honestly shocked at how poorly planned integration into the google ecosystem is.
