Hello. I need to get a laptop that will dock with the E-series docking stations that is capable of running 6 monitors. I have never daisy-chained display port monitors, so I lack the experience to make a smart decision. I think i know what i need to do, but I need to make sure it will work, since this is going to be ordered by my company.

I am thinking i will need 2 hubs that do 3 monitors each, drive one of of each disdplayport connection on the docking station. If I did this, I would not need expensive monitors with multiple display ports. I am sure 1 port cannot drive all of these, but I will have more flexibility if i get something like Dell U2414H with 2 display ports. with that, I shouldn't ned the hub, right?

I know the e series dock will do 3 monitors off of one display port, but can it do it off of 2 at the same time? ALso, I am guessing onboard graphics may not like this... maybe a quadro?

Anyone with experience that can chime in?

Well without knowing the exact answer I know off of one DP 1.2 port you can use a MST hub to run 3 1080p monitors. So you do have a sound theory.USB 3.0 to X connection adapters would work as well so don't rule those out.

I currently have a setup with 4 1600x900 monitors and 1 1920x1080. I am using usb adapters, but I don't like them.

I have to place the order for my new stuff through IT and I want to make sure i know it will work. I can't have them order 6 displayport monitors and 2 mst hubs, then go "oops, we coulda bought cheaper dvi monitors and now i need 4 usb adapters.. oh , and what should i do with these dp cables and mst hubs? " hah, they'd kill me.

I'm guessing I may end up running 3 monitors on a DP cable and the rest through usb adapters if the 2 display ports fail... problem is, if I sound like i have no idea what I am talking about, I won't be able to convince IT to do it... I am already making an expensive request

One of the guys at work has 3x 1080p screens running off a Displayport hub attached to a Surface Pro 3, so as long as you can get 2x Displayport connectors on the dock I don't see what this shouldn't be doable.

I am going to give this a shot... only now, I have a lot more monitors to play with. I just purchased an additional 6 monitors, which brings it up to 12. I will likely run 8-10 if them if I can get them working. I will post my results, as few people seem to have tried this configuration on a laptop. My only fear is that both display ports aren't entirely independent. I am wondering if I will max out the bandwidth by running 4x 1080p screens.

This setup does not work. It appears the graphics card can only drive 3 monitors, no matter what configuration you have them in.
