I could see a few calls accidentally being made but fifty seven million times? DAMN!

The U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois has found Dish Network liable for tens of millions of calls that violated the Federal Trade Commission’s Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR), including Do Not Call, entity-specific, and abandoned-call violations. The opinion, which was issued on December 12, 2014, represents a partial summary judgment win in the case the Department of Justice filed on behalf of the Federal Trade Commission against Dish in March 2009.

The only thing about this that upsets me is that Dish is getting all this attention, but people are completely ignoring all the nasty things that saucer, teacup, bowl, and plate are doing.

Google Voice, block any calls you want, or make them go though a prompt process before your phone even rings.

I hope they get some fines for it. I have had issues with Dish - I love when they call because I start telling them the story and making them as uncomfortable as possible. They are usually fake sympathetic but would i still be interested in subscribing?
I need to let it go...

they will settle for $1000.00 for all those calls. Since our government aint worth a fuck anyways.

I was really expecting the quote to have "and they have been told not to do it again, which they agreed to."

If one of us plebes mess up we go to the gulags, they mess up 57 million times, with intent, with malice, and nothing.

Reminds me of how the RIAA sues a mom for $200 million for sharing 200 songs (worked out to $80K per song), but the RIAA illegally profited off of more than 300,000 tracks and got fined ~$150 a song.

YEAH for corp. overloards /s

I don't like them if only because every time I go into a mall or Sam's Club they accost me about buying their service. That they do the same on the phones hardly surprises me.

And Google Voice, doing shit that makes the NSA look like newbies when it comes to wiretapping :D

I believe SiriusXM is closing in on 57 millions calls just to me :p I have multiple numbers from them blocked now, it is ridiculous!

Next time you're in Sam's and they do this, report them to the store operator.

Or, say you're an employee of Sam's and they are not allowed to solicit employees.

DNC violations are fined up to $16000 per violation.

But you know Dish is only going to be made to pay 1.6 cents per violation.

How about a do not mail list? :D I feel that I have gotten at least 57 million mailings from them.

If some guy is liable for $750,000 for torrenting 1 album, they should hit Dish for $16,000 x 57,000,000 = 912bn

Sure, it'll put Dish out of business, but at least the employees and owners are protected by corporate liability shield so they're not also personally liable like the other guy.

Or at least cut their phone lines, as they clearly can't use phone responsibly :p.

Shit it could be much more than that too. Of course all I'm expecting also is maybe a judgment in the few millions or 10 million tops and a nice verbal reprimand with some fluff letter saying how sorry they are and weren't aware that was happening. Some rogue management people doing this behind their backs blah blah

Please note you can have multiple $16,000. fines per call. Example: An individual is on the National Registry and you called after hours. Two violations for a $32,000 fine, one call.

Google Voice is getting dragged to the trash can and most of its
functionality will be incorporated into the G+ Hangouts apps .
