any game like diablo 2?

So you're a "long time PoE player" and "it is a good game" but you would strongly advise against trying it because you can't play dress-up for free in addition to playing the game for free and getting free content updates? There are many generic armors and weapons in the game, sure, but the uniques have custom artwork, just like in D2. And, of course, you can add sweet MTX effects like below, but there are plenty of awesome-looking skill effects like Herald of Thunder + Herald of Ash (pictured below):

Path of Exile is an excellent game and certainly worth a try. D3 is a very different type of game: D3 is what happens when you try to take D2, streamline the 'RPG' elements, and really pump up the 'action/beat-em-up' aspects of the ARPG genre. There's a lot of fun to be had playing D3 as you can get into some pretty crazy situations (see below), but it fizzled a bit for me once they really started focusing on designing 6-piece sets and making those the defacto endgame builds.

Grim Dark looks like it will be good fun; too bad there won't be a secured-servers environment for multiplayer.

First of all do not attack me being semi-ironic towards what I say, what are you implying that I have never played PoE and go around spouting shit about the game? You can find me online if you like and then come and tell me if I really played for years or not.

And the artwork for hire has nothing to do with glow effects. It has everything to do with armor and weapon models looking bland and all the same unless you give ggg hefty amounts of money for 3d artwork packs.

Would it be better if it was the other way around? No, of course not. Never said that. But I got bloody bored with my char looking like shit in a game where after all immersion is the number one factor. Games are not just about the numbers you achieve you know. At least not for me.

I talked about 3d models (all the same) you talked about skill effects and flash. There are paid alternatives for both, but only the first ones are bland and repetitive to an extreme point. Skills effects indeed are fun and good looking.

What's wrong with people trying to bash whoever talks against a game and in favor of another? That's my opinion, the game is free, anyone can try it for himself. I found myself enjoying Grim Dawn a lot more than I did with PoE.

Well the problem is that you are at best withholding information and at worst completely incorrect.

If you have a unique, you more than likely have a custom 3d model with it. The "hefty sum" ($1000) is for GGG to make an entire unique, that everyone gets to enjoy.

There are other cheaper ($2-$20) microtransaction 3d effects you can get, but the are largely gawdy and stupid looking, doing no more than showing "Look I wasted money on something that does nothing".

You and I both know that uniques are not the way to go in PoE, they rarely are significant. I have tons of characters full of trash uniques. In fact I dare you name any other game out there, any other game at all, that has so many uniques you could just delete without even thinking about it.

Also, another problem of mine is the magic find stats, but that is another story.

Don't be mistaken. I love PoE. I just do not believe it is the answer to the question of this thread.

PoE isn't for everybody. Its much different than D3. What I love about D3 (being able to try out different builds easilly with the same character) is what I dislike about PoE.

I don't like being forced to read up on a game for hours before or as you're leveling up. Or having to start a new character once you figure out the mechanics of the game or what you want out of your class and then hope that you run across the items that you need.

D3 is all about the loot (just like every arpg) and lets you try out different builds based on the gear that you've been lucky enough to find. Call me a casual. IDC

IDK, I haven't played the game in a long time. I don't know if my comments are at all accurate. Definitely accurate with TL2.

I can say that its very difficult to get into. The learning curve is very steep.

I managed just fine jumping into PoE without any prior knowledge. The passive tree reminded me a lot of the Sphere Grid from Final Fantasy X, so I had no problem reading it to plan out how I was going to progress. Whether or not I was successful is debatable considering the issues I had with the final boss. But I learned what I did wrong and what I did right, so I was able to apply that knowledge to subsequent characters.

I'll call you casual simply for the fact that it seems like you just want to jump into a game and play. This isn't a bad thing, and I think Diablo III and Torchlight 2 definitely cater more to that crowd, while PoE is more "old-school" in its approach.
