Hi.

I need to know the length of this card once the stock cooler has been removed.

I'm basically planning out a water-cooled rig and am trying to work out where everything will fit. The GPUs will be watercooled so the stock coolers will be discarded.

What is the true length of the card without the stock cooler? I'm assuming the dimensions on the Gigabyte website are including the stock cooler and therefore inaccurate for my purposes.

Many thanks for your help!

This might help.

Old vs. New install

As you can see the PCB is slightly smaller than the GTX 780 but the cooler extends far beyond the card.

Buddy...your dedication to this thread is awesome, did you pull the cards just for this thread? If so...kudos.

No lol. I took the shots when I replaced my cards about 1 month ago. Also, there are always such questions on these forums or others so these things usually help.

Ha! Dedication = removing the cooler for me within 5 minutes of starting the thread and then measuring the pcb using digital callipers!! :D Anything else is just plain lazy! :D :D :D

Thanks for taking the time for retrieving and posting your pics (I was joking with my comment above btw) :p. That's a nice rig you got there! According to Gigabyte spec sheet the GTX780 is 11.1 inches long. I need a card of max 10.5 inches if I want to use my preferred reservoir in my preferred position. I could get a different reservoir and mount it elsewhere, which would mean I could have a card of any size, but that would not be my preferred option.

If no-one else steps forward with the dimensions, is there any chance you would be able to roughly measure the pcb for me? No need to remove the card or anything, just a rough measurement with the card installed. It would be massively appreciated. Either way, thanks again for posting the pics! :p :)

Thanks for the pics. I've got a G1 GTX 970 in the mail arriving today to go into my 650D case. Glad to see there is plenty of room.

There is no @?!*&$£ way it is 11.1 inches. Gigabyte morons that make the website are wrong. My 780 is a reference board and this is a 10.5 inches long card as per nVidia's website.
I think this is to do with the way boards are measured.

Firstly, I agree with you (I had to double-check lol), the Gigabyte GTX780 is a reference board, which means the pcb is 10.5 inches long. Gigabyte are saying it is 11.1 inches as they appear to include the additional 0.6 inches of the expansion slot mounting bracket in their calculations. It's definitely confusing lol

This doesn't help me though haha!! I still need the length of the GI Gaming GTX970 pcb as I'm not able to trust the sizes quoted in reviews or by Gigabyte as it all depends on how they do their measurements (which they don't describe). Can anyone assist? Please...

I may start a new thread in the watercooling section of these forums tomorrow. I'm pretty sure someone here must have water-cooled this gpu and can give a definitive answer.

The length of the PCB (not including the backplate) is 10.5". If you add the backplate, which covers the entire length of the card and mirrored on the other side by the shroud, is 11.75".

It is a damn long card for sure.

Thanks!! Just what I wanted. Should be able to squeeze it. Might need to cut a little off for fitting though (off the case, not the card lol)

Not sure if this helps or not (hard to line up with one hand), but I took it last night before installing the card.

Thank you -Sn1PeR- and runudownquick. :) Looks Iike I might have acres of space lol. (no mod required) :p

Told you it is less than a 780 which is 10.5 inches. So this being a 10 inch card makes sense.

Might I ask what water block you plan to use? I am planning out a water cooler setup with this card as well and was curious which one you are going with. Thanks!

Currently only EK has a full cover block for the Gigabyte 970 G1.

Didn't even know they had released it. I thought a retrofit was the only option still. Good to know! Thanks for the heads up. Not sure how I missed that release.

Took the cooler off mine in preparation of waterblock installation. The PCB measured 252mm (9.92"). I care about that last mm because at 252mm it means I can fit the card in the Enthoo Primo with the reservoir bracket on. :D

My EVGA Hadron Air case is recommended to fit gpu's that are 10.5" (266.7mm).
In reality it can fit 11" (MAX) cards.
GTX 970 g1 gaming gpu is measured in at 299mm which is 11.77 inches approx.

I have attached a picture for you to look at for my following question:

Looking at that picture attached you will see near the end of the gpu the black plastic at the top and bottom extend a little past the copper heatshrink. My question is: If i were to cut the end black plastic to match the inner copper end of the gpu what size would the card be?

So basically what length would the card be from the start to the end being the copper heatshrink looking copper arrow things that stick out near the end?

Look at the attached picture, you will see that i plan on cutting at the purple line to make the gpu shorter.
So before i buy this gpu, can you please measure from the start to the beginning of the blue line and tell me what the distance is EXACTLY?

Please measure the BLUE line for me & i Plan to cut at the Purple Line.

Thanks!:)

Would love you guys if you did this for me forever!

I know it requires you to take your card out and measure it precisely for me, but i would greatly appreciate it! :)
