SOLUTION: FITS (with about 3mm of clearance from the side panel)

Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this (or similar) combination of Cooler + motherboard + case.

The SG05 has a slight bit of clearance between the motherboard and the side panel, and I used top-down photos of the mototherboard with a pixel ruler (and known ITX dimensions) and estimated the overhang to be ~5mm. I was wondering if anyone had more accurate real-world experiences with this cooler and this case, as well as where your motherboard socket was.

good, use this noctua combo instead: NH-L9i + NF-B9 PWM.

Should I do this for noise, cooling performance, or fitment reasons?

Because the $20 cost difference is really tempting--at $50 I might as well throw in a 120mm AIO watercooling unit and deal with a fan that sticks out. Also, with the CNPS8900, switching to standard-profile RAM is not an issue for me.

is adequate for the SG05 and it has no issues with ram or whatsoever. you would run into serious trouble with the CNPS8900, one is the height, you could flip the psu but then you'd run into cooling issues as the psu fan also serves as an exhaust.

AIO watercooling units are mainly worthless for the trouble you'd have, some does fit but you would lose space for other things like the odd and drive cages, it also doesnt have a fan blowing towards the mobo components.

another good choice would be the Prolimatech Samuel 17 but i dont know if it would fit. you could try the NH-L9i with the stock fan that comes with it and see how it goes.

Ah, I forgot to add--I modified my SG05's ODD tray so that it fits two 3.5in drives. I did this by cutting off the 2.5in mount and putting in plates with mounts for two 3.5in drives. I measured out the clearance to be just around 63-65mm, so it's enough for the CNPS8900.

Also, since I'm running the Silverstone 300W Bronze SFX PSU, and not likely going to put a graphics card more power-hungry than a 7850 in there (will probably switch that out for a 750Ti), the fan in the PSU will rarely spin up since it only does when it's over ~120W load.
For cable management purposes I already mounted it "upside down" (drawing in fresh air) and cut cables to length.

The Samuel 17 will fit, but I'll need a 15mm slim fan because of the dual drive mod I put in (total obstruction is around the mid-line of the 120mm fan and .8in away from the rear of the PSU).

you stuck that CNPS8900 into your head and you thinks its a good idea huh? well go with it then, if it fails you have other choices listed here.

Haha, I'm a "Sort by: Lowest Price" and then ruling out all the crap choices as I go down kinda guy.
I actually totally forgot about checking for overall Z-clearance as I still had the 80-something mm clearance amount that Silverstone advertised revolving in my mind, so I was going around thinking all these coolers would fit when my mod reduced me to barely 65mm of height clearance.

why not try first with the intel stock cooler then? it isnt that bad you know, its inexpensive and it works.

I finished some benchmark/load tests with the following results:
i3-4340 undervolted (~.14V offset)
Stock cooler (Lower profile, all aluminum (no copper core)).
7770 (single fan)
Intake fan: 120mm Cougar HDB
AsRock cooling profile: Silent

Under Prime95, I only hit around 60C
The PSU fan only kicked in under Passmark load, (TDP of the GPU is 90W)
The loudest component was actually the GPU fan with some slight bearing noise
The stock cooler is actually really impressive (that, or I've got the sound of 130W TDP CPUs on air stuck in my head).

I don't think I'll be going for the CNPS8900 Quiet at this time, but I think I might swap in the cooler from my 3570K (thicker, copper core).

hah, great, dont bother with that anymore and call it done, im glad thats sorted out :)

you had to do it your way huh? thats pretty cool! :)

Haha, I picked one up because of some promo Newegg had so it came out to pretty much free after rebate. Silence is the thing that's really great, the fan runs at like 600RPM.
