Google Introduces “No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA”

It is a pre-signup type of thing it seems.

The first time you see it, you enter in some data, then every time after that, you click on an option, with no data needed.

I doubt this will stop bots, since they will just throttle the attempts to some number that doesn't trip the risk analysis.

So on the off-chance google doesn't know every place I visit, they will know every site with captcha I visit.

Nothing is even explained.

It works by looking at your IP address, cookies and how you reacted to other challenges along the web via adwords and analytics to determine if you are a human. They even check to see how your mouse moves towards the "I'm a human" checkbox to determine if you are legit. If they still can't tell you'll get a normal captcha or be asked to make a distinction between images on certain devices.

In test, 60% of wordpress users and 80% of Humble Bundle users just got the checkbox.

Are you just inferring this from the blog post? Because none of that is actually stated there. What is your source?

It seems they're not really comfortable with telling yet. Wonder why that is.

Mouse tracking, cookies and such make the most practical sense but I would of rather read it from an actual source is my point.

spam bot creators and human filter developers are the ones that will create AI

I don't think so. In that video, I think the only part that's actually the CAPTCHA is the checkbox itself. The rest is just a demo form for the data that's being submitted to the website.

My guess is that whenever you load up a page with the "No CAPTCHA", it's monitoring your mouse movements and key presses to try to determine if you're a bot.

The mouse part is interesting, that'd be harder to spoof I'd assume. But yes, Captcha has become so annoying - half the time *I* can't read it, and I'm human.

Couldn't we just tell it that by clicking the checkbox a human will be hurt - thus, the bot can't click the checkbox without violating the first law.

But truthfully, are we sure these are robots and not just Indian or Chinese laborers?

I have seen this on HumbleBundle quite a few times.

The thing that gets me is that I always jump the gun on clicking the I am not a bot button because it makes you wait a few seconds for it to "load".

I am guessing that this would be extremely easy to make a bot for.

It's kind of funny actually if you think about it. The best Captchas for smaller sites and forums are simple home brewed ones, while the more mass scale advanced ones are terrible because of all the Captcha solving engines.

This type of music has *got to stop*!

It drives me nuts. "Oh, everything is now so simple and convenient just use this...." Strumming and whistling. Argghh!

(I blame Apple.)

CAPTCHA's don't work at all, several studies have proven that all they do is annoy real people. So trying to replace them with heuristics is better than having to enter the damn things I guess.

captchas are fuckin annoying. but they have gotten easier with the house address jpg captchas. Just a few numbers.

reCAPCHA ain't shit compared to

Get 'em every time.

LOL - "I am not a bot" checkbox - they'll never think of that one!

Remind me of the RFC for an "evil bit" in HTTP; https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3514.txt - make sure the baddies always set the bit, then we'll know what to block.

And yes, I followed the link and see that there's more to it. But their video sure didn't explain that - it actually looked a lot like one of their April Fools jokes.

Sorry, evil bit in IPv4! Where the heck is the delete/edit post button on [H]?

Never has been one on Front Page News. I think it's supposed to make you actually think before you hit Submit Reply.

I loath CAPTCHA's. WAPITA

Yeah, the majority of the time I just leave the website and go somewhere else when I see one. And maybe I should get me a bot if they are 99.8% accurate, that's better than me with the damn things.
