To ROG Swift or not to ROG Swift :)

What will give me the most fluent gaming experience in Battlefield 4:

1) Keep on using my 24" Asus VG248QE 144Hz monitor with 1080p resolution, where I get 65-100+ fps on average

2) Buy a 27" Asus Rog Swift 144Hz monitor with 1440p resolution and G-Sync, but only get 45 fps on average

?

I have a GTX 770/2 GB and cannot afford upgrading it for quite a while if I get a Rog Swift.

Thanks!

Option 3) could be to buy the ROG Swift and turn down graphics settings in BF4 until you can upgrade your gpu. i have a ROG Swift in transit to me and i'll be running a single 290X for a while. so i'm worse off than you as i won't be able to take advantage of g-sync or ULMB.

Don't buy RoG , stop supporting this stupid matte coated panel using companies

that's right, stand up for what is right! LCD matte coating and Ebola are the primary threats to mankind.

option 4) Good luck finding a ROG swift

There are shelves full of them all over in Canada. I walked into 5 stores over the past 3 days here and each store has at least 10+ on their shelves with online inventory reporting higher numbers. Granted I live in Canada, but if you can find them everywhere here, there's no reason they shouldn't be all over the place there.

770 should be good enough but it depends on the games you play. I've been on 1440/1600 starting with a 5870 4-5 years ago

10+ at retail stores in Canada? So that's where all the Swifts are at. 'Murica needs to step up its game.

Matte coating on the X-star DP2710 is very light and really isn't that bad at all and is my recommendation.
120hz @ 1440p for $320 for a pixel perfect version.

I gave in and ROG Swift'd today. Took advantage of Microcenter having it. Not picking it up until tomorrow though.

I dont know. My 2¢ is that unless youre going to put a whole bunch of money into video cards, the Swift aint worth it. Youre gonna need some serious GPU horsepower to get high enough framerates to make use of it at 1440p so youre looking at around $700 Id say just for GPU's on top of the $800+ for the Swift. If you can swing that cash then its a pretty good setup. However I think Id rather have a monitor with really high image quality for less money and live with 60 Hz and a $300-400 GPU.

I say just stick with the VG248QE until you can also purchase a new video card to go along with the Swift. I'm pretty much in the same boat rocking a single 780 and can't really afford to throw money at a Swift+new video card all at once. Currently saving up and waiting for big Maxwell(GM 200/210) so I can just get both together. Of course if you really don't mind then go ahead and buy the Swift now and crank down the settings to get more playable frame rates. I personally just like to play my games at high-ish settings so I wouldn't want to jump to 1440p only to lower eye candy anyway.

not true. i'm running a SWIFT on a gtx680OC 4GB card from gigabyte and doing perfectly fine, taking advantage of gsync when fps is below 60. of course i don't get constant 144 fps, but it will last me plenty until i upgrade to a 16nm card next year or so.

I agree with this. The beauty of G-sync is you don't need to push the maximum framerate all the time because the refresh rate is dynamically changing to the framerate. As long as you can keep it above 30, you're good.

30....
The primary benefit of the rog is lightboost, flickering is no good @ 30.
I sure hope they disabled it @ 30.

I'm pretty sure most people are buying this monitor for G-sync, and the fact it's the only monitor currently that does 144 Hz @ 2560x1440. G-sync does not work under 30 (or 40?) FPS, which is why I mentioned it.

ULMB only works at 85, 100, and 120 Hz, so you can rest easy ;). It is a great option for those games in which you can sustain these framerates. But if you're FPS varies wildly then G-sync is probably the better option.

This monitor is great because it offers all these features. But if all you wanted was Lightboost then you could save some money by purchasing another strobing monitor without needing to pay the price premium for G-sync.

Just my 2¢.

that's exactly right. there's a ton of reasons to buy this monitor, not just lightboost.
