This is just ridiculous. You'd think Bungie would shell out some of that $325 million it made already to go towards tech support. :(

There's a reason for that: Bungie launched its "shared world shooter" without much of a customer support structure in place. Eight days after launch, users who haven't been able to connect—including one of Ars Technica's own contributors, who still can't get online with an Xbox 360 copy of the game—have exhausted all of the suggestions listed at help.bungie.net. At that point, those users are directed to visit Bungie's forums, "staffed by community mentors who are here to help you."

The practice of putting out an incomplete product then "patching" it has become common practice. It's not really any different than say, buying a refrigerator with a freezer that only gets down to 42 degrees, but getting a coupon saying that, within a couple months, there will be someone out to make an adjustment they forgot to do at the factory. But hey, we're becoming a nice compliant toady society, so expect a service charge for future incomplete products.

Fun game, sounds to me like this issue is related to people who are university campus internet, etc which Bungie addressed a few days ago and said they would provide instructions for campus IT to allow Destiny traffic.

Also, don't play the X360/PS3 version.... I don't know why Bungie even bothered to spend the time making those.

Almost a good analogy, just add something about "If only so many people didn't buy this fridge we'd be able to get to you quicker" or somethin...

I have disconnect issues all the time in Destiny, and the closest college campus to me is about 10 miles away. I get a message telling me something is wrong with my internet connection, FYI it isn't my problem. I do hope they fix this, at least for me I've been playing solo mostly to this point so it hasn't really caused much of an issue, getting back in is somewhat quick enough, and if on a story mission it will let you resume from your last checkpoint. For people who are raiding, which is where the game seems to want to steer players in end game, this is a huge problem.

It is a fairly large problem, the university campus stuff is only a portion of the problem.

Personal experience (we've talked abou this before) Xbox 360 and PS4 version you get dropped, booted, various network errors a lot. Xbox One and PS3 version, not so much. The most common message:

ERROR

Lost connection to partner services. Please check your network configuration and try again.

This is on a rock solid 150Mbps connection across multiple platforms.

I'm having a great time playing Destiny on the 360. Literally the only difference is graphic fidelity (and if I really cared about that, I'd be waiting for the PC version). :D

I've had a few hickups here and there with connections, but it's been an exceptional release versus the likes of Diablo III/Sims III/etc. On the xbox 360 at least, I had an issue where whenever I launched Destiny it would boot me out of xbox live. A friend recommended I try deleting the 360's system cache, and that worked wonders for my problem. Give that a try if you're stumped (I didn't see that on Destiny's help page).

Anyway, shame that there are individuals having game breaking problems with no support options. That just ain't right, especially when you're backed by the publisher of World of Warcraft.

(and if I really cared about that, I'd be waiting for the PC version).

There have been enough rumors that I'm content to wait. I just have to have a KBM and at least 60fps for this kind of game.

What I see so far looks good but unfinished and there are some quibbles that I personally have little patience for. I thought IGN's review was pretty accurate for the most part.

I got the 360 version because I got the Xbox One version for free. I log in to it every now and than to get free achievements because once you unlock them on one console they unlock on both due to the save information being the same.

That being said the 360 version is really hard to look at, so once I get my Achievement notification I log off immediately!

I don't want to get too off topic, but the best I can say about the game is that if you have friends to play it with you're going to have a lot of fun. Otherwise, it's not worth the time.

So after Bungie sold out to MS their quality control went to hell.
Gotcha.
Sad to see such a great company go to shit.
Glad I didn't buy Destiny... Oh wait, I'm a pc gamer, nevermind. Bungie hasn't given a rat's ass about me in years.

Actually the game has been more stable than most MMOs when they start, I think this is just a "new" thing for people from the Halo crowd. Heck if BF4 would have been this stable at start it would have been a huge success! ..... oh wait sadly BF4 was still a huge success....

Bungie got lucky with Halo, and they can't really make anything besides Halo.

The Halo MMORPG they recently released only proves my point. Sadly, they can't even do Halo right anymore, so.

fuck you user...we already got your money

this would make PGI proud

Five bucks says that there's already a lawyer somewhere preparing some documents.

I don't think they can do Halo anyways. Didn't they lose that when they split from Microsoft? Halo: Wars was done by Ensemble, and the new Halo 5 is being done by 343.

Destiny was supposed to be their new IP.

Halo is owned lock, stock, and barrels by microsoft. That being said, Destiny has some dumb things in it.
like legendary engrams. Out of FOUR of them I've had one legendary.(two blues, 1 strange coin and 1 legendary) Every time I see a legendary engram I think "oh, What kind of garbage blue is it going to be today!?"

Sydney Australia, not getting disconnection issues.

But seriously everyone mmo or online game has had issues at the start. Hell you couldn't logon to simcity for almost a week when it first game out. Diablo 3 was like 3 days.

Hopefully they won't outsource to Gearbox like Halo PC. But even Halo 2 PC managed to be worse than THAT!

Some of us get lucky, I got a refund from Microsoft for my Xbox one version. Bought it off the Xbox store and have been getting constant disconnects (only in destiny, all my other games are just fine on a 25mbps cable connection). Called Microsoft explained the issues and bungies piss poor customer service and asked for a warranty refund. Rep laughed and said no problem, 10 minutes later I had the money back (I had used Microsoft dollars so it was an instant refund to my account). Purchased diablo 3 and have been enjoying my loot hunting a lot more now.

Let's be honest here, this wouldn't be the first time they were waiting to see how well a game sold before investing in the necessary network resources to make it happen.

What's really been a lot of fun is getting to the last board in Russia and the moon and last boss about 20% to go on them only to be dropped by the server....happens 2 times on each now...not impressed

Typical Bungie. They've never been very good at support. They've also been incredibly slow at fixing broken aspects of their games. Hell they've even adamantly denied issues for years before addressing them.

If you read their weekly report on "first's" for Destiny you'll see that snotty stuck up attitude in their replies to people who are asking for balanced in both the absurdly dumb Engram problem and PvP balance. They basically brush it off and act like its "not a big deal".

I was going to stick with Destiny but I just don't see why I should. Even Blizzard at their worst point was far more supportive of their community then Bungie is being. Bungie shouldn't be so eager to be dicks as this IP is new and totally subject to long term failure.

I wouldn't be so cavalier with my first new IP in ages even with an established fan base. But its important to remember that Bungie is only half the team it once was. The other half are at 343. That has to have something to do with it.

5 bucks here says there are things in the EULA that no lawyer would have a case for to begin with after MMO's all these years.

Halo was fine, however Bungie is no longer part of Microsoft. So it is actually once Bungie left Microsoft and their money their quality control went to hell.
