I currently have a H100 on a 3930K @ 4.6Ghz. I am looking for something quieter. The H100 pump has gotten insanely loud lately and I find it annoying. So if anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it.

Silverarrow SB-E
Noctua NH-D14/NH-D15
True spirit
dark rock pro 3
PH-TC14PE

Yeah stay away from CLC's, they're garbage. I'm using the Hyper 212 Evo currently, I've always used the Hyper 212 heatsinks, they're by far, the best. Noctua are over-priced and ugly.

Yet another blatantly ignorant post in [H]ard Forum nothing new these days:rolleyes:... sad:(:(

I wouldn't call CLCs garbage, that's a bit ridiculous. The Hyper 212 Evo is great /for the price/, but with a decent overclock won't cut it. I wouldn't try to run it on a 3930K @ 4.6.

No warranty on the H100?

The Noctua is probably your best bet for an air cooler, but I dislike big heavy air coolers lately for the stress they put on the motherboard.Just buy a new H100 and return your old one in the box as defective.. :p

exactly...

Also OP if you want to upgrade over your h100 you may want to try a Cooler master Glacer 240L or swiftech H220X. as other types of more conventional AIO will offer a better cooling performance but not too much to worth the money..

The Thermalright TRUE Spirit 140 Power is very good. Within a couple degrees of NH-D14, PH-TC14PE, Cryorig R1 Ultimate and R1 Universal with their great cooling. Silver Arrow IB-E, just released Archon IB-E X2 and soon to be released TRUE Spirit 140 BW Rev. A all have offset bases for better PCI-E socket clearance.

I would get a warranty replacement for the H100.

One of my systems is running an H110 (refurb) and it is pretty quiet. Quieter than any air cooler that will cool as well for the overclock you are running.

Air coolers are much quieter than CLCs at same level of cooling. Tests have shown this over and over.

Plus a ir coolers will still be going strong years longer than CLCs will. Nothing to go wrong except the fans, which are easily replaced. :D

There is absolutely no reason to buy a CLC. A pump failure means a cpu overheat, eventual shutdown, and possible damage. A leak means catastrophic damage to your entire system. Do you trust the cheap plastic to hold up after years of being heated?

What do you get for all these downsides? Performance inferior to high-end air coolers, coupled with more noise.

At least with an air cooler, if the fan fails the metal heatsink can do some work passively.
