The ST6000DX000 is Seagate's first consumer 6TB hard drive to hit the market. Like the 6TB Enterprise Capacity v4, the Desktop variant includes the same six-platter design with an increase in areal density up to 643 Gbits/ square-inch. This along with a hefty 128MB of multi-segmented cache and 7200 RPM spindle speed gives the new Desktop HDD 6000GB a performance advantage over the previous 3 and 4TB models.
Currently available in kit form for $299.99 and not found in retail packaging at common e-tailers online at this time.

The only other 6TB hard drive I know of is from Toshiba and is their enterprise model only.

I wonder what the reliability is like on these high cap drives. I bought two of the Seagate 4TB externals when they first came out (no one sold 4tb internals, so cracked the cases open), and one of them just died about a month ago - less than 3yrs after release.

brilliant, but how long before they have some real consumer competition...?
