Is the PS Vita dead or dying?

Own both the vita and 3ds xl. Play the hell outa the 3ds, and the vita collects dust. It comes down to library of games for me. I don't care if the vita is a more powerful system. If the games are boring I ain't gonna play it.

So I know it's Kotaku and all, but there's a recent article on just this topic.

TLDR: The Vita is a great piece of hardware that plays games well. It doesn't deliver on all the other promises (tablet replacement), nor did anyone ever believe it to begin with. While lacking in smashing blockbuster titles that are well known (mario) - the library is impressive. It complements the 3DSXL nicely in that its library delivers different games than are generally available on the 3DS. Remote play is cool, but not great. Regardless, the Vita is worth your time and money. Recommendation: buy a Vita in 2014.

Interesting to see a mainstream gamer site recommend this. I thought for sure it would end with "save your pennies and buy a 3DSXL" - but they came to my conclusion. While not what it COULD be - the Vita was still a worthwhile purchase that produced many hundreds of hours of happy gaming - moreso than even some of my "successful" consoles like the Wii.

seems the Vita is very hard to finf right now selling faster than htocakes, so I/'d say its alive and kicking.

Every time I go into Wal Mart, I see them remaining in the glass display case, they don't seem to be hard to find at all. Plus I see ads selling them on Craigslist often.

Which scares me into thinking the "shortage" is more of a production stoppage. It is hard to find right now in some areas. But if it was selling well, it would be everywhere and not localized. And the fact that Sony is lowering the first party developed titles... It's quite a shame. The vita has excellent potential for a handheld but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I'm totally guessing but maybe they have shifted some of the production to making Ps TV units. I'm willing to bet it sells far better than the vita has.
Could also be Sony playing games to create demand.

This is just a thought not my only and not a serious one sided opinion. The vita isn't even that good at remote play its WiFi sucks but Ps TV has a nic port should make playing in another room easy. I preordered 2 of them already

I actually think the demand for a Playstation TV would be much more than the Vita. The PS4 extension, Netflix, and PS Now alone for 99 bucks seems like a hell of a lot better deal than a 200 dollar machine you can't hookup to another TV.

I dunno I have 4 TV's in my house and I would put the PS TV in the office with the PS4 in the living room. If it's marketed right it could do well, they just have to get it right and make sure the consumer knows what it actually is.
