EA Sports UFC is an upcoming mixed martial artsfighting video game developed by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is based on the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) brand and will be released on June 17, 2014. A playable demo was released on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Marketplace on June 3, 2014, with Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson as playable fighters. It will be the first UFC game since THQ sold the license to Electronic Arts.[1][2][3]

The game's artificial intelligence accommodates for changes in player strategies mid-game to make the gaming experience more realistic than in previous UFC games.[4] The game also simulates "full body deformation" to connect players with their player-character. It was revealed that The Ultimate Fighter will be included as the start of Career Mode. Also included will be perks unlocked throughout career to boost gameplans. Online will feature Championship fights as well.

Conflict arose between UFC president Dana White and Electronic Arts, when the UFC approached EA Sports to develop a UFC video game and EA refused. The UFC then turned to developer THQ to develop UFC games. THQ's first UFC title on the 7th generation of consoles, UFC Undisputed 2009 shipped approximately 2 million copies. With the success of the series, THQ quickly began working on a sequel UFC Undisputed 2010, and followed this release with UFC Undisputed 3 in 2012.[5]

Coincidentally, with the growing popularity of MMA, the UFC banner, other organizations, and THQ's success, Electronic Arts began working on EA Sports MMA, based on UFC's then promotional rival, Strikeforce. It was at this time that Dana White declared himself "at war" with Electronic Arts. According to White, "EA Sports told us, 'You're not a real sport. We wouldn't touch this thing. We want nothing to do with this.'. We put our asses on the line, THQ and the UFC, to make a video-game deal in the worst economy in the world. We go out there and do this thing, and it's successful, and now God-damn EA Sports wants to do a video game. You told us you’d never be in business with us. They wouldn’t even take a meeting because mixed martial arts disgusted them. This wasn’t a "real" sport. Boy, they got over that real quick, didn’t they?". White even went as far to warn fighters who intended to be included in EA Sports MMA "If you do business with EA, you won't be in the UFC". Jon Fitch was an example as such, when he was released for 24 hours until he agreed to sign a contract that allowed the promotion to use his face and likeness in future UFC video games by THQ.

After the closing of THQ, Electronic Arts announced a "multi-year, multi-product" partnership with the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2012.[4][6] THQ,[7] reported that the publishing rights were purchased by EA Sports for an "undisclosed cash payment".[6] The first gameplay for the game was shown at the Xbox One reveal event in a trailer by EA Sports. The game will be one of the first to run Electronic Arts's Ignite engine.[4][7] Electronic Arts put its Fight Night boxing franchise on hold while developing EA Sports UFC.[8] The company said that the decision was based primarily on the UFC's greater international prominence, although the boxing series could potentially return.[8] The Fight Nightteam (EA Canada) became the UFC team.[8][5]

Anyone planing to get this game ?

Demo has really slick graphics. Will take a bit to get used to all the move/button combos. I dont want to say its complicated but its a lot to remember right off.

Tried the demo on both Xbox one and ps4. Ps4 version AA was a little sharper but can't really see difference in motion. I did find it easier to pull moves off on the ds4 because of stick placement. But game loaded faster on Xbox one -I am using a USB 3.0 4tb 7200rpm external drive \ps4 has 1tb 7200rpm drive. Pretty fun lots of moves for sure.

Great on both like I said the offset sticks which I normally prefer were not as comfortable with fighting as the symmetrical sticks on the ds4.

The controls seem deep. I enjoyed the demo, but just did the training, Haven't had the time.

I pre-ordered it a while back, I haven't played a UFC game since the original Undisputed so I'm really looking forward to it. Plus, it's about time I used my PS4 :D

I will probably get it when it comes out, I have the Undisputed games and generally like them. Was always a hit with my friends to play the UFC games while waiting for the UFC events to start.

Even with the forced tutorial I found the game overly complicated to play. I'll probably rent it first before buying.

I still need to DL this. Is it similar to the last few? Most of those involved people backing up and throwing head kicks at everything.

I bought it 3 days ago, it's very hard to get the games controls down. However there is a reason that the gym training exists. I had to do the ground defense portion for 40 minutes over and over again before I finally felt I could hold my own. You literally have to practice a ton to keep up with the move set. It's not like fight night at all it will take awhile to actually be good at the game and have be mechanics down.
