The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II is a steampunk ARPG that retails for $15 on Steam. Has great game play, excellent graphical presentation, and an awesome story. The banter between your character and your ghostly pet is hilarious! You get to make moral choices during the game that carry weight. The are 3 classes to pick from. There is a conventional melee or hunter style ranged character, spell caster, and an engineer.
The sequel builds upon the older game by allowing you to have eight active move slots and tons of choices to propagate those move slots. The game has a lot more choices than Diablo 3, and you can respec in town whenever you feel the urge to. Even your pet gets in on the extensive skill trees as she has tons of skill to choose from. She can be your tank or ranged dps. She can be set to collect your loot for you, sell trash gear, buy supplies from town, and even breakdown items into crafting materials!
You can import your old character from the first game or you can start anew. If you choose to make a new character you can start at level 1 or level 30. There is a hardcore mode for the sadomasochists, plenty of varying difficulties to choose from, competent peer-to-peer online CO-OP for up to 4 players, 8 player PvP (haven't tried it), tower defense, and more. And the best of all you can play the game offline!
The runecrafting system is very well thought out. You can alter your gear by adding or removing essences that add stats to your gear. You can completely change some of the stats on your gear with the crafting system. You can combine essences to make more powerful version of them. Lots of things to experiment with!
The gear drops in the game are relevant to the character that you are playing. Of course the loot is of varying rarities, thus making some better than others. There is a ton of loot also! Whatever build you want to make a set of gear for you can. There are sets with bonuses to collect and elemental gear to find. And don't forget that you can alter it with the crafting system!
If you like ARPGs you really need to take a long look at this game. It's a great change of pace for the D3 crowd, and it even caters to the Torchlight II crowd in many ways. At least take the time to watch Kripparrian's stream.
