Newegg Open Box PowerColor AX7950 $183.99

Friends don't let friends buy powercolor.

I have a couple of the pcs+ which is supposed to be a step up from that model.

They run way hotter and 10% slower at the same settings as my other brand 7950s

Running Dual-Powercolor Radeon 7930s in Crossfire, each clocked at 1200Mhz at the core. Both running solid for almost a year. At that clockspeed a single 7930 ran about the same as my GTX670. Sorry you drew unlucky lottery :(

Worst video card I've owned, don't feel sad you missed out.

That's what I paid for a brand new one with 3 free games just before the altcoin craze went full on retarded.

Sold it for something stupid like $165, guy had it mining for about 2 weeks and it died. I RMAd it for him and they sent him back another one pretty quick. Felt a little dumb for selling the card so cheap but it was fair at those prices because this thing is a liability. It was a beast of an overclocker, though.

God damnit I have been looking for one of these for months now to game with. Freaking cryptocoin BS.

Yeah - shame on us for making boatloads of cash with them.

The funny thing is that crypto mining on GPU's has been around long enough that nvidia could have incorporated some improvements into their hardware to make them more competitive in that market. They aren't interested though -- and with zero competition in the market there will continue to be high premiums.

You can be lucky or smart, or the opposite of either. I was lucky to snag my 290's before the boom, and pick up a 7970 (yes powercolor) for 200ish dollars before the boom. It's been mining at 770kHash for months and been a dream boat.

If gaming is your thing -- prices are still rather sane on the nvidia side of things. While I love AMD for their hardware, their drivers (even 14.1 Mantle) suck ass and have caused me so much damn frustration.

For 3/4 of your post I was like, jeez, take it easy on em... ouch... then you said game on Nvidia instead and yep, that's what my advice would be.

But

There are a lot of people that want to game on AMDs because they prefer the brand for w/e reason--and for them, the crypto-revolution sucks ass. Baiting these folks just seems extra shitty considering you're printing money (however inefficiently or slowly) using the hardware they'd like to be gaming on and can no longer afford due to completely artificial market factors. Also, Cuda-mining has improved and both 450kH and 770kH are going to be muscled out eventually by ASIC type miners developed for altcoins instead of bitcoins, which even ASICs are losing control of.

Yeah -- i wasn't trying to be harsh -- just matter of fact. Both companies (amd/nvidia) do good work, I've owned both, and right now every GPU in my house is on team red, because I do enjoy the mining aspect, and because I snagged before the prices hit the roof) Mining on nvidia hardware is possible just not nearly as efficient for what it costs. Nothing you can really do about it.

ASIC's are no doubt in the pipe, however it's one of those things where "I'll believe it when I see it" There are multiple companies all saying the same thing, and odds are at least one of them is scamming or playing games, which is it? I don't know or care. I don't have the money or the risk taking ability to toss 10,000 dollars on a company that might never produce.

For the amount of money/time/energy/risk I'm willing to invest, if ASIC's ever take hold of the scrypt market, I have no problem cashing out my coins, and moving onto the next thing, (be it a new type of crypto coin, or selling off the GPUs)

While I do love AMD hardware, I hate their software. People like myself with crossfire 290 rigs got hosed pretty bad with Mantle, had to uninstall, roll back, blah blah due to the utter shit performance, I was one of the huge supporters of mantle, and it left a big negative impression on me. I wanted it to "Just work" so so bad, and of course in true AMD fashion, it didn't. Not to mention introduce a few new bugs on top of that.

Nvidia is actually pretty decent with the newer cudaminers, especially when you can mine "cpu only" coins. (*cough* maxshitcoin *cough*)

And obligatory friends don't let friends buy powercolor statement. They really do suck.

I got a PowerColor 6450 in my HTPC that I recently added (upgraded from an Asus 4550). Based on the PowerColor comments, I hope mine doesn't crap out.

For my gaming box, the coinflation has also pretty much made me only consider Nvidia GTX cards since I just want to game, not mine.

I've had a reference 2GB Radeon 6950 sitting in my closet for about a year now. Doubt it would get much of anything coin-wise or ebay-wise

Keep it as a backup video card in case your primary one dies and you have to wait so many days for its replacement.

Go check prices on ebay, specifically sold items. I think a 6950 should sell for at least $150 and probably more. If you don't need it, now would be a good time to sell. If you want to avoid all the fees, then the FS/FT forum here is a good option. I know you could get at least $150 for it. Mining performance is about the same as a 7870, but it would use a bit more power is all.

Yeah I actually have a GTX 560 in the rig right now because the 6950 was having some heating issues and a few hiccups a few months after I flashed it. Haven't had the time to troubleshoot yet

In the sold listings I'm seeing the AX7950 selling for anywhere between $275 to $315. I'll probably sell mine after I get the RMA back and test to make sure it works properly.

I got 3 power color PCS and another on the way. I love my PCS dual / tripple fan models. I do wish my Devil would run 1500 memory speed though.

Unless one is mining, for $275-315, I'd rather get a refurb ($275) or new ($315) GTX 770 and I'm no NVidia fanboy.

I listed my 2GB 6950 on here and sold it in 15 minutes, for quite a bit more than I assumed that old of a card would be worth.

I don't know if your card can be unlocked or not but I sold a 6950 that was unlocked for $175 on ebay. I've seen them all day long around here for $150-$180. They get snatched up fairly quick.

My issue wouldn't be selling the thing, my issue would be fixing it first :p

Knock on wood .. But I have 10 PowerColors running 24/7 oc'd and not one has any any issues.

I have 3x 6970 XF Reference cards, they all push out 515KH/s all day and night. I keep hoping one of them will die so I can RMA it and get a 7970 back, but the freeking things are bulletproof.

Just curious, how much money are you clearing after energy costs?

Unless I overclock a bunch, 470 is what i get out of a 6970. Power consumption sucks with if you are not undervolting a good bit.

my XFX 6950's with the single fan all do a solid 450k all day long. I've become a big fan of the 6950/6970 range They're nice and solid. I almost feel the quality has gone DOWN over the years. the 5k series was pretty amazing and now the 6k series remains overlooked by most. The 7k series has been rather bitchy to me and now the 200 series is getting them back on track but what a PITA the drivers are.

I really don't think it is fair to be judging AMD so harshly here man...While I understand you (and myself for that matter) were excited for Mantle, the shit pile of a game called BF4 is the very reason I haven't gotten to try it myself...I wanted the game so bad, and have nearly bought it several times, but DICE (likely rushed by EA no doubt) released a Alpha/Beta/Gold product that needed at least a month or more of solid debugging...

Sorry to go off topic, but I honestly think the StarControl Alpha demo is a MUCH better test to show what MANTLE has in store for us...Also don't forget that Thief is just a few weeks away.
