Using a TV as a monitor and nvidia, what tweaks?

Just want to make sure I am getting the most out of my trusty LG that I've had since 09. I wanted to know, besides the edid override, what other tweaks should I be doing to my display/PC to get the best quality image? I am using a DVI to HDMI cable and have set my HDMI label on my TV to PC (disables any post processing). Using the just scan option also.

Besides that, is there anything else I should do? I am using a 580 GTX as my video card.

Thanks! :)

The biggest problem you face, from an '09 TV, is the pixels.

I went from dual monitors, to HDTV + Monitor in July 2009. I spent $,$$$ on a Sony Bravia 32" 1920 * 1080 KDL monitor, and it was awesome. I did a heap of research and this set was flat out the best thing you could get (within reason) for the money.

1) it had SQUARE pixels.
2) it allowed 1:1 pixel mapping in the user options.

Many TV's of the era did not have square pixels, they might have had oblong, or even sickle-shaped pixels. There was some TV's with great pixels, but no allowance for true 1:1 pixel mapping, so you have all those awful problems with dynamic overscan/underscan, and the TV trying it's half-arsed best to give you a scaled picture, when all you wanted was 1:1 pixel mapping.

You haven't said what size your monitor is, or what resolution. A lot of '09 monitors weren't "full HD", they were many odd pixel ranges, and a great many were 720p displays.

A 40" screen with a 720p display might look great for console games, but it will be utter crap as a dedicated computer monitor.

I hope this post has given you some idea of what to look for in a TV, and that you get going with something reasonable.

I'm currently running a Seiki 39" 3840 * 2160 display, it's quite good, as long as you accept the 30fps limitations, and understand what you're getting into. Some people just can't get used to it, others love the resolution/sharpness of native Windows at that resolution, and would never go back to a Dell standard 30" 2560 * 1600 monitor.

My old 2009 model Sony Bravia 32" HDTV went to my dad in August 2013. He's been running 1920 * 1080 on 23" and 24" monitors. When he got the TV, he said it was like having his eyes opened for the first time, games became truly immersive, and the screen IN YOUR FACE is just grin-inducing. :)

I have a LG 37LH30 37 inch LCD TV. It's 1080p. I've done the edid override to get rid of the HD 1080p resolutions in my nv control panel (just pc resolutions exist now).

Is the full RGB setting the same thing as the edid override hack? Would it work on Win 8.1?

I assume setting Full RGB is the same as the EDID Override registry hack correct?

Thanks! :)

I think the effect is the same. I've done the edid override on my 32lh30 and when I tried one of Full RGB togglers, nothing changed.

I'm guessing it would allow hdmi sound while giving the benefit of full rgb.
