I have many people interested in paying me $750 for both my cards. I've had them since launch day. Would it be worth selling and getting a 780 ti?

Sell them, get 290 Tri X, they oc like beast, when the prices come down get another one and enjoy like 90% more performance then a single GTX780 Ti.

Won't be quite as much raw performance. but you'll get all of it all of the time. Also the power savings and thermal foot print will be nice (not to mention a drop in noise output). Up to you though.

No question. 3 year old tech vs New tech... sell them while they are still worth something. If litecoins drop in value you won't get even half that price for those 7970's even if mantle turns out to be anything but a AMD market hype turd

I also have a just turned 2 year old 7970 that I bought on launch day. Personally, I am waiting to see Nvidias next offering before I do any sort of upgrading.
I am also waiting to see how Mantle performs.

7950's are going for $300+? I paid $153 for my PowerColor 7950 when the 290x cards came out. This might have been the greatest investment ever! My Sapphire 7950 needs a fan so I doubt I could sell it, although I do own the ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme 7970 for it. It is under warranty so I could just send it in and let them replace it for free. :)

Thx OP for at mentioning this. Time to debate...

I offloaded my 7970s at the beginning of the bitcoin craze. Added another 100 and upgraded to 780 lightning sli. I am enjoying the nvidia cards at the moment. I'm not a fan boy either way, I like to mix it up. 4850 to 5850 to 570 to 7970 xfire to 780 sli.

If you want to try green, I say go for it. If mantle interests you, I would hold off.

At best, it would be a side-grade in performance. Unless you're having issues with Crossfire in your favorite games or are looking to reduce your power consumption, you wouldn't be gaining much. You could keep the cards and mine while you aren't gaming - same performance but extra money in your pocket until 20 nm parts are released.

2x 7970's should be faster than a 780 ti in games that have good crossfire support, but your experience might be smoother on a single 780 ti overall. If I were you I'd upgrade if only because the current prices of your cards are inflated while the 780 ti will retain its value better when the next gen cards come out. You could also add another 780 ti used off [H] down the road instead of upgrading to next gen stuff. oops, was editing my post and it got deleted

Yea, I am in the same boat. I can grab a local 780 for a really good price so I am trying to unload my 7970 now.

Pretty much a no brainer. If you are not using your AMD cards to mine then take advantage of the miners premium.

Without question!

I sold my 7950 and 7970 GHz and went for a 780 and a 770, only to realize the 770 alone is already overkill for my gaming needs. The 780ti should be a beast!

If you don't need the versatility of crypto currency mining and hash/password recovery then sell. Buy low sell high is basic investment 101.

780 GTX Ti is a stellar performer and you won't regret purchasing one. You can easily get a 20% performance increase over reference by just taking the GPU clocks to 1200 MHz which almost any 780 Ti can get.

On the other hand if the 290s were priced at their regular MSRP I would have recommended the TriX version.

A 780Ti is better for quite a few games than the 7970 crossfire is, and at least equal to it for the rest. However I would at wait on the Mantle release to see how much it improved performance. Mantle could make what you have equal to or better than the 780Ti on the new games that will employ it. We'll all know after the BF4 patch hits on the 15th.

Since performance numbers are a wash it's really up to you. Personally I would prefer a single card over 2 any day. If you haven't had any issues with crossfire though, then stick with it. Crossfire and SLI seem to be a mixed bag for a lot of people. Some have great performance with the games they play, some see near single card performance.

Ti is a good card and it will be very quiet, even with the stock cooler at 75%.:D

Smart move offloading these cards while you can get good money for them. In the interim I went with a GTX 760. I'm waiting for the mining craze to bomb so I can buy a couple 7970s for cheap. Looking forward to finally being able to run 2560x1440 native. :)

Big money but those 780's will not disappoint!
