Been looking at some mid range gaming laptops around $1500.00 and most have Windows 8 installed with 8 or 12 gigs of ram. I thought you needed Windows 8 64 bit OS to use more than 4 gigs of ram. Not many laptops are showing the 64 bit OS. What am I missing?

64-bit is probably implicit on those models. I find it unlikely that you'd be able to find any OEM machines today that still ship with 32-bit Windows, in fact.

I would think so but in the specs it just shows Windows 8 while some other laptop specs show Windows 8 64 bit.

Like it was stated above, "64-bit" is most likely implied because a 32-bit OS will only allow to use 3.2GB - 3.4GB. Thus all the "excess" RAM would be unusable and they will need to deal with a lot of returns and lost revenues. They will not be in business for long.

That is what I thought because why have 8, 12, 16 gig of ram with a 32 bit OS. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks
