Interesting MMO's?

Curious if there are any interesting MMO's around right now? The last one I played was Guild Wars 2.. I don't want a straight WOW clone. I grew up playing UO... I've also loved very strange MMO games, ex. a Tale in the Desert.

Oh, not interested in EVE. I've tried getting into it multiple times, it's just too much of a learning curve at this point in my life.

World of Tanks!
Not strictly an MMO, but the brilliance of it is that there is progression but you only commit to 15 minutes at a time at the very most. None of this nonsense hours and hours of raiding.

Rift is awesome it's FTP since May it's on steam now too. The storm Legion zones are amazing I never seen such cool looking zones before. It takes a while to get to 50 but after that it's downhill.

He doesn't want WoW clones, and although Rift has a lot of unique lore - the systems that drive it are largely imitating WoW.

Played UO from beta until 2002. You need to check out www.shroudoftheavatar.com. It's Lord British new game. Got to logon yesterday during a pre-alpha test and the game feels just like UO. They are shooting for a release around Oct. 2014.

I think I only find more action oriented MMOs interesting these days. The combat model basically is whats interesting. Maybe the issue is I'm looking more so for a coop experience as my focus as opposed to really a MMO.

I played FFXIV and was really bored by it. Waiting to check out EQ Next and Blade and Soul.

the secret world

+1. I am a fan of The Secret World as well. F2P, you only need one character really, he/she can be outfitted as any role you acquire the skills for and you can acquire all the skills in the game on one character.

Hey have you heard about EVE? Oh...nevermind ;) It's crazy that game is still going strong though. They just popped out a new expansion with new ships and whatnot.

How about Planetside 2? Definitely a fun time there.

Neverwinter is fun. It's a little bit like Dragon Age...or at least what Dragon Age 2 could/should have been.

Neverwinter is worth playing for at least a bit. But there's a lot of WoW clone in it. The action combat is fun though - its the only MMO that managed to make a fun tank class since you have to actively block.

How about Defiance? No subscription model and it's basically pure combat. Would fit your co-op needs as well as long as you know someone else who plays it.

I played Tera at launch and had a lot of fun with it. But as with most MMOs I get burned out.

Wildstar looks fun. I think I might check that out once its released.

Funny enough, I funded that campaign... just tried the alpha yesterday - not at all happy but I have to give it another shot on a real gaming computer and not a laptop with no right click. :p

Really? I thought Secret World looked like a WOW clone when I first saw it. I've got the flu right now so PLENTY of time to try a new game.

Depends on what you consider a WOW clone? I don't think TSW is anything like WOW. First almost all the missions have cut scenes and stories, second the spells and abilities system is different, you can get all the spells and abilities in the game, but you can only have 6 passive and 6 active abilities assigned at a time. These are called Decks, you can make them and switch between them for different purposes, like tanking or dps, or whatever.
