Hey guys my x58 and p55 systems are feeling a little old and I was thinking about taking advantage of the Intel retail edge deal. I can get the 4770k or the 4930k for 80 bucks more. I would like to do some overclocking and want to know if its worth going to the 4930k. Most intense thing I will be doing is bf4 and I hold on to them for 3-4 years. If i go 4770k I'm getting the z87 oc formula. If I go x79 I will get the x79 pro fatality.

Thanks Guys

Are games even using 4 cores yet?

But for 80 bucks why not

$80 more seems like a fair price to me but for bf4 I think it would be better to use that money towards an AMD 290 video card.

I would get the 4930K without even thinking twice. I say that as the owner of a 4770K.

Yea going Geforce I see alot of doa 290 and 290x at work so going with 770 with tax returns. I'm getting the cpu and 180gb & 530 deal before they stop selling them. I know I need vid card more than cpu but I have 3 kids so I can't drop the vid card money yet. I was thinking the 4930k so I can get ivy over haswell for oc'in I will do h100i or something similar so 4770k will have more heat. Also I may not need the cores but the smart cache is shared. Plus the triple channel x58 feels better than my dual channel p55. @ same clock speed and same hdd. Maybe 4 years down the road I will be happier with the 4930k ? Thanks for the help guys

4770k is easier to over clock memory and performs great.

Z87 isn't same as p55. Memory much better on Z87.

The 290 with mantle support is going to be great choice for bf4.

I remember reading one thread about 2 weeks ago a person had stated that BF did take advantage of 6 cores. However before believing that I would check the BF4 game forums and see if there is truth in it. I'm thinking the topic must have came up at least once. Wouldn't suprise me if a test or review about it has come up as well. Other than that, unless someone can prove me wrong, I'd say right now for overclocking the 4770k is going to result in better overclocking potential.

If you can afford it I'd go 4930k (or maybe you can find a good deal on a 3930k). The way things have been going a 4930k will last you 5+ years. The 2 extra cores are nice future proofing for games in the future (I don't think it will be too long before games start taking advantage of those additional cores).

I have an Intel Core i7 3930K on an ASUS P9X79 Deluxe with a GTX 670. It's a little older but is a really great platform.

I was going to build a new addition when I came across a deal at Microcenter for a Core i7 4770K at ~$200 USD. I sat on it for a few days and the deal ran out so its back to something like ~$279.99,...which is still a good deal. However, I'm not building at that price as good as it may be.

Generally speaking I think both the 4770K and the 4930K are great performers. I think most people would be happy if they had either one.

For now though I think I'll just wait for Haswell-E / LGA2011-3 / X99 in late 2014.

well im getting them from intel way cheaper than micro center sells em for. It is only 80 more than the 4770k. I work at the micro center in cincinnati.

2011 is unnecessarily expensive, unless you will actually take advantage of the platform. Otherwise a waste of money.

Yeah, if it's only $80 more the 4930k is a no-brainer. I don't know what you get the motherboards for but the ASUS P9X79 is a nice board and it isn't too much more than a high end 1150 board.

Now time for me to get myself a part time job at Microcenter...

youd be an idiot not to go with the 4930k.... This is coming from a guy who has a 3930k that does 5.3ghz and a 4770k on a maximus VI impact. I also have a 4930k coming from retail edge. I would give up this 4770k for another 3930k any day of the week.

4930 hands down. I see 75-90 percent usage on all 6 of my cores in bf4 fyi

Well for future proofing those extra cores will be nice. Either one will do. However for bf4 even a 4670k would be more than enough.

If the key word is future proofing then the K would be the ideal one to go with here. The way I see it, every tick on the Intel product cycle enables the mainstream market CPUs (1155, 1150) to bring the performance of the predecessor's tick performance:

To clarify: The i7 2600K matched or exceeded the performance of a nehalem i7 980x but at a fraction of the cost and a generation newer.

Simply stated the 4930K would stay relevant longer than the 4770K. And at the price you expect to get the 4930K is ridiculous and personally if I were in your position, i wouldnt ask which one, but be looking for the other key components of my next MONSTERR LGA2011 system lol

Your gonna enjoy the performance of the 4930K :)

Is this with hyperthreading on or off? Do you happen to know your CPU usage/FPS with hyperthreading on? I think a recent patch may have impacted this hyperthreading performance by the way.

I was leaning to the 4930k b/c of how long I got out of this i7-950 thanks for the help guys. also does having ht on lower your bf4 performance?

i have a 3770 and a a 3930k and if you do any video editing at all..... 3 kids that is a lot of events to film :) you will be happy with the extra 2 cores.

the 4790 is interesting when you look at its performance per $$ compared to the LGA 2011 line up.

With it out I would not buy the 4770k at all
