Just got a 290x and another is coming today.

How do I activate uber mode? I don't see any switch on the card. Also how do I increase fan speed as it seems to be stuck at 44%

Also I had some issues with metro LL. I'm getting frame rates in the low teens. I read that physix might be the culprit, but u don't know how to disable it. Played some bioshock which ran just fine. Any ideas?

O and are people getting a electric buzz coming from their 290x?its not super annoying but its definitely there.

The PhysX option should be available under the game video options. Yes PhysX on AMD cards runs on the CPU and not GPU as it does on NV cards, at least this is what I've heard.

ok figured out the fan thing, forgive me I havn't used an ATI/AMD card since the X1800 days

Where exactly is the phsyx setting though? in catalyst?

no GPU native physx. that an nvidia exclusive.

CPU based is in-game only if supported.

dont forget uber mode raises the fan cap to default 57%, but you can raise it higher in CCC.

No, in the game video options.

When you run Metro LL go to the video settings. There should be a PhysX option.
Like I alluded to earlier, since PhysX on AMD cards is not implemented at the GPU level, there is no control over PhysX from the CCC, as it might be with the NV cards.

For AMD cards, you specify PhysX settings at the game level.

ok got it :) now im hitting solid frame rates. What would be the best software to use if I want to set the fans to run 70-100% during load? This thing still seems to cap itself at 50% for me even though it is set to be able to reach 100% in catalyst

it doesnt work that way.

on auto, the fans will only go high enough to keep the card under 95 degrees. So if you hit the freq ceiling of 1000mhz, and the card is under 95, the fans wont increase anymore. You can set a manual speed of cousrse, but it wont ramp, and will stay there permenently. Most of the revewers said no matter how bad their case airflow was, auto never got above 60%

If you want to make your own fan curve to keep the temp lower, use trixx or Afterburner.

downloaded afterburner and made a fan curve. Just curious if I have to make one for each card as I dont see an option to select separate cards. Also the same goes for the overclocking section. I can only seem to set power limit and overclocks for one card. Since I am coming from nvidia, EVGA precision had me select each card in SLI and I could set separate settings if I wanted. Is there just one master setting for both cards in afterburner?

I have a single card, so I'm not quite sure about the Afterburner setting, but I would be very surprised if there is not an option to pick separate cards.
Is there not a dropdown somwhere to pick the card that you want to change the clocks on.

I know that Sapphire trixx has a dropdown option on the first screen that lets you pick the card.

Under the option menu, near the top there is a setting that says "Synchronize settings for similar graphics processors" that is checked by default. Try unchecking it and then restarting the program to see if it then lets you customize each card individually.
