Crossfire not working on MSI 990FX-A GD-65(v2)

The system in question is the third one in my sig. I've been having nightmares trying to get Crossfire working on that system. Originally I had a single Radeon 7870-Tahiti in there and it ran fine. Recently I upgraded from that to Dual-Radeon 7850's and it wouldn't recognize the second card. Updated the BIOS, switched RAM between a few Systems, to no avail, I could not get Windows to recognize or even see another device show up. The card just sits there with the fan spinning.

The insane part is if I try these cards on any other machine, they are both recognized, and when I put either my 7870-Tahits or GTX670s in my AMD box, they are recognized and run fine. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out why two Radeon 7850s just won't work on my AMD MSI board.

I even swapped the cards between slots, but no matter what, either Radeon 7850 in PCI-Express Slot 2 is not recognized by Windows or Ubuntu.

I even tried a fresh install of Windows/Ubuntu on a spare Drive, but no matter what, this board refuses to see the second card.

Is it a faulty board?

Known issue with MSI boards, will not recogized the PCI-e slots or just one slot works. It is a hardware thing.

Also driver suppost is important, power supply current is also very important. Re-calculate the max power consumption.

Single graphic cards nowadays require 400 watts to run. Dual cards need atleast 700 or higher.

I put Tried my 1000Watt BFG, my 750Watt Corsiar and I just got a Corsair RM650, which I'm now testing with and second card not showing up. Tossed in my Old 6850's and they are both recognized. Tossed in a 6850 into slot 1 and a 7850 into slot 2 and only the 6850 is recognized, however if I put the 7850 in slot 1 and the 6850 in slot 2 both are recognized. I've updated to the latest BIOS on the Board.

Just got off the phone with MSI, they are doing an RMA, but I don't think it's going to do anything, as I think your right, MSI's 2nd slots are essentially broken for Crossfire on Pitcarin.

I've tried every one of AMDs drivers available from the Launch of the Radeon 7850/7870 to the latest Betas. All with same issue.

Sorry but I'm a bit annoyed, did you read my post? Did you read my specs? So you missed that I have 1000Watt, 2x 750Watt and an 80+ Gold 650Watt PSU I've been experimenting with? I have MORE than enough power for two of these things. AND it's a Radeon 7850, not exactly sucking down R9-290x juice here.

Anybody can recommend a good board for an FX-8350 and Dual Radeon 7850's? I'm going to avoid MSI going forward...Under $150 would be appreciated.

Thanks for the recommendations, I love my Gigabyte on my 3770k, I think I'll stick with them. I don't know why I didn't originally, my old Gigabyte P45 got my Q6600 to 3.6Ghz and is still running....and now I know where to put my 7850s for now...thank you. For the record I do have an amazing MSI board, it got my 2600k to 5.2Ghz...but this AMD board...JEEZ...
