Pssst…..Hey buddy, wanna buy a smartphone cheap? It looks like people will be hearing something similar to that in the coming months until the crooks manage to unload their haul of 22.5K LG G2 smartphones making their way to Sprint until they made a unexpected detour.

The phones were on their way to Sprint, which is expected to launch its version of the G2 early next month.

I've been interested in trying out a G2 with the back-button. My old Atrix had a rear mounted power button/finger print scanner (years before the iphone tyvm). Where can I score one of these bad boys on the cheap?

They have the ability to flag them in the system as stolen easily... for a job this big though, a better idea would be:

1) Anyone who comes into activate the phone, tell them the fact is it's stolen
2) give them the option to a) turn over the stolen property and walk away b) get the phone activated but only if they reveal who/where/when they bought it from.

A pattern would quickly emerge that would be traceable back to the bigger fish that orchestrated this heist.

The phones were undoubtedly insured, not sure of the value of such phones, guessing 500/each? so basically 10 million street value for phones? Probably less since you lose value fencing stuff.

If I was verizon I sure wouldn't mind letting a few stolen phones given amnesty if it led me to the guys who did this, because if they did it once, they will eventually do it again.

Why am I not in some sort of Corporate security job? I'd be good at it obviously :) Nope -- instead im sitting here at work on a Sunday earning peanuts as an IT operator. boooo.

It's CDMA...useless device when stolen.

LS980 ZNFLS980 Sprint (US) 850/1900[17] 25, 26, 41[17] UMTS bands tested for the FCC is not the final list

It does do 850/1900 for both UMTS and LTE, as well as has quad-band GSM.

Doesn't look like there's AWS though although depending on the actual hardware, it may be possible to crossflash a different radio (looks doubtful)

Heh...now we know how Google can offer the Nexus 5 unlocked for so cheap...no hardware cost...

Almost worthless on sprint, Some of there MVNO's however like to use 3rd party hardware.

Unlocked, it will work just fine on ATT. TMO as well if you're in a refarmed area (PCS HSPA) and don't need LTE.
