Currently using Windows 7 Pro.

Working just fine. No problems.

Mainly game and surf.

If you had to pay for it, I wouldn't spend money on it.

8 and 8.1 have DX updates that BF4 will apparently take advantage of.

Is it worth upgrading just for that game?

I would think that at some point more games will use more of the new DX tweaks but then again I can also see (on the other side of the coin) where developers refuse to add the stuff specifically for 8/8.1 since it's marketshare is so low (compared to 7).

DX 11 is going to be the new API of choice for a long time because it's supported by Vista -> 8.1. I do not expect most games to take advantage of the subset of DX11 features (11.x) because it's behind a paywall and most people won't be able to use them.

Performance wise, other than minor DX 11.x improvements (where supported), 7 and 8 run virtually identical so there won't be any other performance gains. If you have an older computer with only 1GB of ram or something, Windows 8 may run a little better.

Otherwise, if you like the Modern UI, then switch to 8. If you don't like it, don't switch, you're not missing much else.

Why fix what isn't broken? If you've got money burning a hole in your pocket then put it toward something more tangible like hardware or a new GPU upgrade instead.

If you can try it out in a store or a friends house, do it. Or load the Enterprise trial on a VM. Some love it, some hate it. Aside from the UI, it's a good upgrade. You can put a start menu replacement on there if you want. It's very subjective as far as the UI is concerned. I like it, but many others hate it with a passion. I'd hate to say it's a good upgrade and go for it and have you waste money and hating the experience. So, try and get some hands on somehow before you spend the cash.

If what you are doing is working fine and you have to ask, probably not. But, it's worth it to some. If you can't see any features you could live without, I'd hold off until you either need it or want it bad enough to buy it.

I would, but only because I hate how cheap Aero looks.

I don't see any compelling reason to upgrade from Win 7 granted the install is working fine. Yet I don't see any reason to install Win 7 on a new platform due to UI issues.

If you want to, go for it, you will not be disappointed. If not, that is cool to, you have a solid working computer already after all.
