There is a review of the Leap Motion controller posted today at Benchmark Reviews that is certainly worth checking out.

Of course, once the review item arrived it was out of the box and on my computer in no time at all. I was really keen to begin testing so that I could share my exploits in discovering how effective this “amazing device” really is. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests and evaluates the Leap Motion Controller (model LM-010) for functionality and innovation.

I've read several reviews of the product, but I sort of wish somebody would approach the review from the standpoint of "how does this device enhance normal operations of my desktop" in terms of stuff like Web browsing, Word processing, using a Spreadsheet, and yes - gaming, in games that aren't specifically written to take advantage of it. I don't really care a whole lot about their custom applets and whatnot that are available.

Be really cool to play Borderlands 2, for example, and be able to go through the inventory/backpack/etc screens by just reaching up and pointing in mid air instead of having to laboriously use the mouse on the UI (especially the trade screen).

I love my Leap Motion. I also wish more was written for specific apps, but so far, I've been using it for many of my engineering programs and so far so good. My arms get a little workout though. :D

So, to sum up the article...

Pros: Appears to do what it claims; gives reviewer a hard on.
Cons: Absolutely useless at this time.
Rating: 8/10

Also, 8.25/10 on value? For something that costs $80 and does nothing useful? That's sub-Brookstone levels of value, there.

That is the first positive review of this thing that I have seen. I would highly suggest anyone considering the purchase of one to check out some video reviews on youtube to see just how bad the tracking is if you have any kind of background lighting going on. That, combined with the lack of apps and practical uses, would limit this thing to tinkerers and the curious.
