Windows 8 - black flickering screen. How to fix?

Having an issue with Windows 8/Office 2010. I was uninstalling Office 2010 which it asked me to reboot to finish, which I did. Now Windows 8 fails to boot.

I see the HP logo, though when the login screen would normally appear I now get a black screen which flickers. It looks like this:

Any work around for this?
 
Try hitting F8 before the windows logo appears, choose Enable VGA mode from the selection screen.
