Bad framerate on the 2014 Corvette tach

So I test drove a $70k C7 corvette, and the tachometer is displayed on an LCD right behind the steering wheel, in analog needle form. The problem is, the framerate was only 10-20fps! Who wants a choppy tach needle, especially for that kind of money?!

This is one of those instances when the switch from analog to digital is worse in ways, which might only bother acute observers. Other examples: Civic's electronic gas petal with lag (not sure if they've fixed this since 09), digital TV sound/video mis-sync, digital TV added tuning delay, LCD 60Hz limitation, satellite radio digital compression that's worse than FM.

I completely agree, I remember back in the day when monitors were triple the resolution of TVs. It BAFFLES me as to why 2560x1600 monitors are not cheep and everywhere, and why we cant buy a reasonable laptop with at least a 1080p screen.

Try getting the car company's attention. Post this in the Corvette forums, and post a link to this HardForum thread that a little issue such as this, turned you away!

Digital tachometers of high-performance cars MUST refresh at a minimum of 60 frames per second.

I don't know if I am in the minority here or not, but I don't like the "all digital all the time" direction cars are going in. If they want to put a digital display in the middle of the tachometer or speedometer, fine, but give me analog with it.

There's just something about seeing a needle sweep the dash that digital can't ever hope to replicate for me.

There are just some things better left as analog.

I'm not a big car not but I agree. I don't seen any benefit in digital tachometers. Less electronics in a car the better. They seem to be a common point of failure.

It is a bit ironic, indeed. Although in this case my "TESLA" handle was created as a reference to C&C: Red Alert well over a decade ago.

Nevertheless, I actually like Tesla as a company. And I am by no means against electric cars. I just hope for a balance to be struck between digital and analog.

And I want choice to always exist in the market, but that is another discussion.

Right, fair enough. Digital displays always irked me in cars, particularly in older versions where the LCD would take a long time to change when it was really cold leading to a blurring effect that was just awful.

Was installing some 3M clear bra for the Kia dealership last week, and i had to drive a 2014 Sorento to and from my shop. The LCD tachometer was very fluid, enough so that it look a little "floaty", almost gave it a 3d look.

Corvette fans, behold a lowly Kia that does a digital tachometer better. Tell that to the carmaker and get them to fix it!

Toyota claims they had to put a digital tach in the Lexus LFA because the engine revs so fast an analog needle couldn't keep up. I wonder if the Corvette has a similar problem.

Either way its no excuse for poor execution.

Where have you been? ;) I just picked up a 2560x1440 X-Star for 320 pixel perfect.
They are all over the web if you look.

GM should offer a 120Hz LCD upgrade for $3500
Pixel perfect and color calibrated 120HZ LCD upgrade for $4500

as a former 07 C6 3LT/Z51 owner here, they definitely could learn a few things.... biggest waste of $60K, it spent more time in the dealership for problems that they couldnt fix, than it did in my hands. Lemon lawed it.

You can't expect perfection with a "cheap" sports car.
