And they are planning to bring that number down in the future.

There's a secret chip that will be revealed on launch day.

Doesn't the PS4 promise to have multitasking as well? I'd imagine they'd have a similar reserve amount of GPU processing as well. Hell, they're already reserving roughly the same amount of RAM as the Xbox One.

They both reserve part of the CPU, but both are 8 core so that isn't going to make any difference.

Xbox One was reserving 3 GB of memory for their OS, while the latest news is the PS4 only reserves 2 GB.

The PS4 doesn't need to reserve any GPU for a camera since most games aren't going to use one, while the Xbox One does reserve 10% of the GPU for Kinnect since they have made that a major part of their system.

Where's the latest news that says the PS4 is using 2 GBs? The last thing I saw it was 3.5, but that was several months ago.

Multitasking doesn't require a reserve of GPU resources on the PS4 because it doesn't have to deal with Kinect nor with Snap apps, explained by a current developer, ElTorro.

The PS4 also requires 1GB less ram reserved because it is a single OS deal instead of Hypervisor+Windows+Game OS.

2GB RAM reserved for the OS, not 3 nor 3.5, and yes, this is another plus vs the Xb1

Tbh there not many if any at all pluses for the XBOX ONE from a technical/gaming standpoint other than the DSP possibly.

Gaming is stupid anyway. ARE YOU READY to be bombarded with your favorite America's Got Talent videos and the latest music videos from your favorite bands such as Thirty Seconds to Mars!? You'll be blown away by the newest, coolest, and most hip entertainment options that the Xbox One has to offer!

Well why not? It was already equal to a more powerful GPU in the PS4 according to MS, so MS can just keep tapping that well of unlimited GPU power for an infinite number of things.

/snark

I actually appreciate Microsoft doing more with the console, if they had a cable DVR less powerful or not I'd buy it day one. I honestly just think the felt what the had was good enough, Sony just took it a step further and focused on one thing.

I'm not opposed to either method as I'd love to have the Cable/Skype and NFL type stuff with the PS4 hardware capabilities.

As I have said before I reckon MS looked at the usage stats for the 360 over it's life and found that media/TV/Streaming had taken over far more then gaming in the past few years.

I certainly use my 360 a lot differently now than I did in 2006.

It's not just about gamers anymore. Far more people coming to the party these days wanting other options.

When its all said and done, regardless of game discussion .. clearly the XB1 is going to have the superior OS and functionality over its competition. That may not matter to some, but in a post PC world where smart phones and tablets are outselling computers, it matters to most.

As rage inducing as that might have been to read here on a sheltered PC/gaming enthusiast forum on the internet, real life dictates the market. I"m not trying to say that the XB1 is going to sell or do better solely because of its OS, thats silly. However, cumulatively a product that is dialed in from inception to completion.. from the metal to the OS to the game and back definitely can and often does shine above its competition.

Just look at the Apple products. They are clearly not as powerful as some Android counterparts. But the overall "experience" of the device, the brand and the understanding that base functionality is standardized across the entire platform sets itself apart. Consumers in 2013 go wild for stuff like that, just like they go wild for great specs and great games. No longer is the console market just about raw horsepower and game libraries. It sure used to be, and its not that those matter any less than they did. The game market has simply expanded beyond its original borders, and demograph. Things like rock solid OS, gesture/voice and features matter, and matter A LOT in 2013.

I fully understand why people may disagree, or feel strongly that based simply on raw numbers the PS4 is a better console. You're entitled to that. Just don't be shocked or ass hurt when Johnny gamer who outnumbers you 100 to 1, decides to buy the Xbox One for reasons I have mentioned earlier. Gaming is no longer a market we corner, gaming en mass has been infiltrated and taken over by people like your little cousin, your sister, your parents or even your grandparents. I think Bob Dylan said it best...

The problem with the xbone is not that they are reserving anything its that they are behind on power to begin with. If MS had just spent more to get more out of the GPU none of this discussion would be happening and the xbone would be considered the vastly superior system. And another option would be if SONY had an equivalent or lower speced GPU.

Unfortunately for MS it didn't happen that way and they have been beaten into the ground on this issue.

Yeah bro, when we get "our" next console the number 1 thing "we" all should be considerate of is the O.S. and whether it was made by Microshitload .

Who needs "games" ;)

Well who does? I bet you the next generation of consoles after the PS4/XBone will be even less games orientated.

It's all about being the central media consumption box in the house. The one that takes in all the subscriptions for TV/Movies/Sports/Shopping.

Games? That's the thin end of the wedge going forward.

Wait and see major Amazon/Ebay systems for the consoles soon.

I actually agree with much of that. MS did reach higher in console functionality, but it's really not much more than an OS update away for the PS4 to add many similar features.

The days of the PC as a flagship gaming platform are pretty much over (not that interesting games aren't released on the PC; they certainly are), but as you mentioned, mobile devices are not only stealing away game play from PCs, consoles will also see the same decreases.

The success of a game console is going to depend on many factors, including exclusives, quality of games and other functionality. Xbone has a couple of problems, particularly the cost of online and some popular functionality which requires a premium subscription, not to mention the huge chasm in performance between it and the PS4.

I certainly wouldn't say that the Xbone, particularly with its higher price, is going to slam dunk on the PS4. I don't doubt the Xbone will be successful, but the situation is not as one sided as you believe.

Apple has been between "market leader" and "extremely competitive" with both the iPhone 5 and 5S in CPU/GPU performance, responsiveness, and battery life. Multiple Android phones have recently launched that were less powerful than the year old iPhone 5. The only knock people have against the iPhone being powerful is that is has a small screen.

Part of the Apple "experience" you are talking about is simply that the phones are really damn fast.

I understand what you're saying and I believe there is some truth to that. However, graphics sell games. When it comes down to what graphics look better, people will generally buy the game that looks better, especially if the difference is quite noticeable.

Most games will be multiplatform, and I bet that differences in them will be minimal. I've pre-ordered a PS4 and believe its the better console, but these spec differences mean very little in the end.

PS4 devs are struggling to get 1080 60fps, its not like its some super powered console with tons of extra power.

Things like user interface and user experience matter just as much and those have been MS strengths. I don't really like how everyone seems to hate on Kinect without even thinking how it can improve the experience.

They are already having a hard time to get games running the same on both platforms, pretty sure that gap is going to widen. It won't put it a generation ahead but we probably won't need websites to nitpick over a missing frame or less ground clutter.

User interface is a preference, brand I can see though.

Give me an example of Kinect 2 where it wouldn't be used in a dance game or workout videos where people would rather use motion rather than a controller. There has not been one game successfully do it and I doubt there will be.

MS strength is that people are locked into Windows and Office, and they have billions to burn.

Their user interfaces have always been second rate copies. Who thinks Metro was a great interface? Kin OS?

Android stole the notification bar from Windows Mobile phones, who cares.

Flat tiles in iOS?

He means the neon-color-My-Little-Pony-vomit rounded tiles with highlights were stolen from Metro and it's single color squared off tiles with minimalist icons. Who knew!

Here you go. A ton of people out there are saying IOS7 is more similar to windows phone platform than it is to IOS6. The notification menu on my GF's iphone 4 after she updated to ios7 provides nearly identical functionality to my Galaxy Note 2. Doesnt matter if the facts are starring you right in the face if you ignore them

And no, im not. Ive clearly stated in multiple threads that 95% + of my gaming is done on PC. I also own XBox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, Wii U, 3ds, 3ds XL, PSP, and PS Vita.

I am a fan of all gaming, I call bullshit on bullshit, and the console flame wars is 99% bullshit

You're being overly defensive and responding to people who were not even talking to you. But just for good measure since you were on the Xbox One Defense Force;
