Need a 55 inch TV

what kind of budget?...I would go with any of the 2013 Panasonic plasma sets...ST60 is the best in terms of price/performance...but if you can afford it then step up to the VT60...but remember that plasmas are best in dark rooms or ones with ambient light control

I'm in the same boat but would not be able to control ambient light so plasmas would be out of the question for me

I just picked up a 55" LG LA6200 a couple of weeks ago and I'm nothing but happy. Once the set is fully calibrated it's amazing, especially with it's passive 3D.

not bad. depending on your budget and if you're into quality, i suggest you look into panasonic. i bought their 55-inch plasma which was rated as having the best picture quality among all TVs at the time, and possible still today, by CNET.

I've got last years GT from panasonic and it has treated me well. But if you have light issues, skip plasma. Middle of the day viewing is not nearly as nice as night viewing. But grownup TV time after the kids head to bed is amazing! Wife prefers it to going to the theater.

I'm returning my ST60 for this reason. Thought I could compensate by keeping the TV away from any light, but it doesn't matter. Colors still look washed out even after over 200 hours of break-in. I'm going to try the new LG GA7900 47" LED model.

Here another option you guys could explore. However, the odds of it being available at your local store are slim:
LG 55LS4500

I have the LG 55LS4500... It is an ok TV, but you definitely get what you pay for. I got a deal from Fry's for this TV and a really nice soundbar..

Only having two HDMI ports is really big downside though....
