Hi all,

Looking into a monitor upgrade, with the following specs:

27"
non-TN (IPS/VA, etc.)
1080p
Matte frame
VESA compatible
Matte/semi-gloss panel

The last two are musts. The reason I'm only looking at 1080p vs. 25x14 is because I have horrible eyesight, and 2560 doesn't do anything for me other than require more powerful hardware.

Anyone have any options?

There are some 27" LG 1080p models with sort of a plastic matte coating that can be left on, or peeled off, but I forget the model. I haven't kept track of 27" 1080p IPS models so much. I think one of the HP 27" IPS 1080p models is considered decent.

There are several VAs at 27", the BenQ 2760 (PWM free model, depending on what part of the world you live in), and a Samsung 27"er, with a terrible stand, but somewhat decent panel.

Depending on how horrible your eyesight is, you could alternatively get something like the Eizo 2736 and run it at exactly half resolution. I recall an owner here stating it handles interpolation rather well. Although that may be overkill for what you want. Usually for eye issues I recommend just cranking up the OS dpi settings (what I do myself).

Thanks for the info Namelessme. I'd actually seen the 2760 from BenQ myself. One other thing I forgot to mention is that I'd love a USB hub as well (Not asking for much though, right?). I'm on my third monitor at the moment, and they've all been Dells. As such, the most-used USB ports, by a wide margin, are those on the side of the monitor. I've actually been considering just saying "Screw it" and saving up for a 2713M.

And yeah, I crank up the DPI as well. At the moment I'm typing this at 125% on a 24" 19x12 monitor, and my face is about three inches from the screen, to give you an idea.

I think you need to go to an optician. That's not a good viewing distance.

You think someone with my eyesight hasn't been to an ophthalmologist, and isn't with one regularly? I'm well aware it's not ideal, but I have between 5 and 10% regular eyesight, a pair of glasses won't fix what I've got, trust me on this. ;)
