I use onboard audio but i really liked the USB device in the wow headset. I'm looking for a similar headset with similar positional audio for about 50$. If nothing exist in that range im open to go a bit higher. I also prefer closed cup

The Arctic P531 and other headsets based on the same OEM kit go for around $50 on Amazon and Newegg. Amazing positional audio thanks to being actual 5.1 (4 drivers in each cup), pretty damn decent audio quality in general for music and movies, but the only real con is that, depending on your head shape/size, you'll either find them perfectly tolerable, or downright painful. I'm in the middle, but I don't mind the ear fatigue since I really don't even notice it till after I finish gaming, and I'm just a glutton for pain in general. That's just me, though I'd seriously give these a shot for the excellent positional audio, but make sure you get them from somewhere with a good return policy in case you end up hating their ergonomics.

Behringer UCA222 is a usb dac that will allow you to use regular headphones like the jvc harx700. This will sound better than any $50 headset and last as long as you want it to. Grab a cheap mic and plug that into your on board sound.

stretch a little bit and see if you can afford a plantronics gamecon 780

I've used the wow headset and thought the audio was very good. But for me I didn't like the earcups the leather earcups caused my ears to sweat.

I've been using the Razer megalodon which i find very comfortable with the cloth earcups. The lowest I've seen them so far is around $80 used.

Another I liked but didn't like the leather earcups are the Logitech G35. As far as comfort they close to the feel of the WoW headset. The leather earcups do a pretty good job of cancelling outside noise. I've seen G35s on ebay for around $60 used saw some news going for $70.

I think the G35s would probably be the best choice coming from the WoW headset.

I gave up on dedicated headsets and went this route so I could use whatever pair of headphones I wanted.

Works great. It does mean two sep wires to deal with but I just mount to the side of my phones that already has the cord and a some electrical cable/shrink tubing and you're all set.

thanks everyone! i went with the plantronics due to the affordable price in Canada. Other suggestion turned out to be about 100$ in Canada even tho our dollars are similar.
