Any ideas what could cause this high pitched sound? Happens with two different sound systems.

I'm assuming it's the sound card on my motherboard.

Specs:

3570k
2x4gig ddr3
MB: ASROCK P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 R mobo
onboard sound: Realtek ALC892
gtx 670 dcu2 top

onboard sound is never good :( are you using it in AC97 or HD Audio mode as this can matter of course. Just bad filtering I suppose, not much I can think of to "fix" it, try looking for better sound drivers maybe, or better yet, get a dedicated sound card like Asus Xonar DX-DSX-DGX or similar :)

Its just electrical noise from the motherboard; a typical problem with onboard sound. Even if you get a dedicated sound card, and hook up headphones using the front panel via the computer cases internal HD Audio connector, you may still hear noise being picked up by it because its an analog connection. Just something to keep in mind when using headphones/headsets. Its best to connect directly to the back of the sound card, which be the most logical thing to do with sound cards that have headphone amps built in like the Soundblaster Z.

OP, do you mean sound coming through the speakers? Or sound coming from inside your computer?

If it's the latter, and high-pitched, it's probably capacitor squeal--could be from any of your components that have capacitor. This doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the capacitor, and is fairly common.

Doing so at your own risk, here is a post about capacitor squeal, and what you might be able to do about it: http://www.overclock.net/t/476207/squealing-capacitors#post_5792068

It can be psu or gpu.
it might albo be power sections around cpu socket.

I have the same thing. First it's loud and then as the pc gets warmer

The sound is coming through the speakers.

I think I know what it is. I recently dropped water all over my keyboard and killed it, partially. I think that might be causing electrical feedback.

Stupid $40 keyboards dead in one spill. Where's the water resistance?? :p

If it was just water you can restore the keyboard by letting it bake in the sun or in an oven for a little while.
