According to this Destructiod article, Xbox Live bans will not affect your Xbox One game library.

Major Nelson, in a Reddit video interview, contradicted Xbox Support, stating, "Absolutely not, you will always have access to the games you purchase. Absolutely not." According to him, you only have to worry about losing multiplayer features through an Xbox Live ban.

This policy doesn't completely screw over the consumer...so I am having trouble believing that Microsoft is implementing it.

You know they could get rid of at least some of this XBOne controversy if the people in charge would actually explain the policies to employees. This whole thing with one person saying one thing and then someone else saying something completely different is going to make even more people cautious about buying.

Sure, today, maybe. That is the deal pray I don't alter it further.... It might come down to a ban by proxy. I can see them telling people that, well, xbox live games need live so we aren't revoking your license per see but you still don't have access to your games until your ban is cleared or you buy a new live acct. I have been saying this is ultimately the direction that MS has been wanting to go for a while. All subscription service: All the time.

Welcome to the new normal.

well wouldn't they have different types of bans like they do for the 360 i.e console or profile ban.

with a profile ban on the 360 you lose access to the content you've downloaded afaik.

I got my PS3 banned for having unauthorized software on it, but they also banned the account, which affects my Vita too. Now, the games I bought on my Vita are impossible to reinstall. The only way to change the account the Vita is linked to is to reformat it, so I can't buy more games from their store unless I lose the old ones.
Microsoft isn't quite as lame - they don't ban the account currently - just the hardware. At least you can access your stuff from another device in the future. I'm personally only really worried about my Steam account since it has 200+ games. The stuff we agree to with these services basically means they can strip us of all our purchases if we do something they don't like. Be really careful if you buy stuff from their digital stores...

You could have the top guy at MS tell you one thing, a week later what he says might be proven false. It really doesn't matter -- and there is no use in worrying about anything right now.

The fact that the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing -- is all I need to know that if I'm going to spend 500 dollars -- it will be with Sony this time around.

The damn thing could give blowjobs --- and while tempting, I'd rather spend the money elsewhere with the nazi-type control they want to have over the end user.

Major Nelson is the voice of reason at the XBOX camp. I hope they give him more responsibilities than just spokesperson.

and Microsoft's trend of having the biggest PR disaster for their next gen console continues...

They're being cautious about the information they release. But by giving out small amounts of info, the consumer will always assume the worse case scenario. Lets be frank, assuming nothing but bad might be accurate with Xbox One.

What happened to the days of when I buy something, I can play it how I want and no one can take it away?

Sad thing is some people really don't give a crap about any of this. A friend of mine had a 360 that just gave him the RROD, so I asked him if he was going to get a new one. He said he was going to wait for Xbone. I told him about some of the stuff like can't sell games and needing to have an internet connection to play. His response: "I have good internet so I don't care, I'm getting one." I would guess his attitude counts for the majority of console gamers anyway, and that's probably what Microsoft is banking on. Fact is that even with all this bad PR and gamer hate, MS is probably going to lose less than 5% in total sales from existing gamers, but will make that up with new customers who like the all-in-one-box idea or who will have no choice but to buy one for exclusive games (since they don't game on the PC).

Personally I don't get all the publicity about it. If it's to educate people on the system that's one thing, but if it's just gamer bitching then it's really not needed. If you don't like what they're doing then don't pay for it, pretty simple. My guess is that people will bitch about it but buy it anyway, so all the bitching is kinda pointless.

Big corporations aren't content with simply killing the American Dream by driving income inequality to monolithic proportions. They want to make sure that anything you can afford isn't really owned by you, merely "licensed" or "leased" from them.

This is why I love my PC. I don't have to worry about some ass hat man child getting butt hurt and having my entire library of games banned and my console bricked.

At this point, why would anyone buy an XB1 or a PS4? You are letting these fools into your house to control what you do on your hard bought hardware. Oh wait, it isn't yours because they said so and you buying it agreed to that. Sucker.

"Microsoft reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate your access to any or all Xbox.com"

"These terms and conditions are subject to change without notice."

Microsoft, as a whole, is sending out a lot of mixed messages. Even within the corporation there are staff spouting off contradictions. Why in the hell doesn't Microsoft get their various groups together and get on the same page?

^ This stuff is brand new and I honestly don't think they expected the level of gamer-rage blowback they are getting from screwing with DRM related things. This stuff is not even 100% set in stone currently, so I guess the different groups within the company are not discussing things like they should be to get everyone on the same page. If anyone else watched the major nelson interview this topic refed, he explained how sharing games and stuff works in a way that was quite different from how anyone else explained it too, so maybe he understands it better than the keynote talking heads (or he is off base)? He made it sound like, that by having the daily server ping thing, it is what allows you to loan a game to a friend, even without physically giving them anything. I can just say, I am loaning game X (even a downloaded game) to whomever (up to 10 people or something?) and temporarily pass a license. The check in/DRM is how they keep that from leading to crazy piracy. Who knows though. I think, like devilpup mentioned above, that most people won't give a shit about any of this. They will still buy one regardless of it needing the internet or costing slightly more because it has some feature or game they want.

It should just be game specific online bans

No, the whole point of banning for behavior or cheating is that you are less likely to do it if it effects more than just your 1 game.

Yep he's ripe and ready for a promotion straight to HEAD PR BullSh**er! Surely you MUST be joking? He's got one hand on the MS Bosses cok and the other on his own!

See this is where many people's log is plainly incorrect. The messages are not contradictory. They clearly state one thing in big, bold letter. THIS IS NOT A CUSTOMER DRIVEN DEVICE IT'S A MONEY MAKING GRAB FEST AND IF YOU BUY INTO IT WE HAVE ALL YOU SUCKERS BY THE NUTS.

Sony isn't much better. I distinctly recall the big applause at some kind of reveal or event a month ago (or something) where the big boss said they will never charge for online play. Yet here we are mere weeks later and they completely go against that promise.

Sad generation for gaming. i'm just glad Polyphony Digital are releasing GT6 on the PS3 because thats looking like it'll be one of, if not the last console game i buy because i'm not supporting this arrogance from these corporations (unfort. like a few wise ones have stated.. the majority don't have the sense to see the big picture).

You get this talk when the company wants one thing, people within the company know that the public wants a different thing, and the company is trying to size up just how much they can get away with.

News like this just reminds me why it's a good thing I have never bought an Xbox of any kind and have no reason to in the future.

I would have an open mind about the new Xbox, except for the fact all the news coming out lately is hugely negative. It's almost like Microsoft is trying to intentionally sabotage their own system!

So if someone cheats at school they should be kicked out? Cheat in sports they should be banned from any and all sports?

The only thing I can think of where you should give up all rights is if you cheat on a spouse while married.

The product is not even out, and support is always the last to know, hell they probably don't even work for Microsoft, it's probably is a third party company that is contracted.

This is what kills me with people who immediately call support after a press conference or some comment is made and then get upset about the response. They say they don't know they complain and post it all over the web, and if they do respond and it's controversial they still complain and post it all over the web. It's a no win situation.
