Apple is stepping up its trade-in program by taking it to local stores. Apple will be teaming with Brightstar Corp, a company that specializes in handling phone exchange programs and has experience with other carriers’ trade-in programs.

By offering money for older smartphones, Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook is seeking to entice consumers to upgrade to the latest models, part of the company’s efforts to reignite sales growth and combat declining shares.

Maybe they will offer more than Sprint. Sprint offered me $178 for my iPhone 4S when I was browsing online for a new phone.
I'm eligible now for an upgrade but haven't decided on what I want, iPhone 5S or Samsung GS4.

i'm in the same boat. iphone 4 with 2 year contract up 6 months ago. Not sure what to upgrade to.

also....what about my music on itunes if i go with GS4?

Go into your itunes folder..copy all songs directly on to whatever you want.

As for which phone, personal choice really. But being technical about it, the 5 is really hardly an upgrade over the 4 or 4s for that matter, while the GS4 is a huge upgrade.

trade in? i thought all iphone owners simply chucked their phone into the nearest trash can as soon as they bought whatever new trinket the ghost of steve jobs happens to release that year.

Sorry, the 5 is a huge upgrade. Even if you are still on a 4s. Having the larger and proper 16:9 display for media alone is what makes it worth it if you want to stick with Apple. Further, the faster CPU/GPU means you can run those games on that larger display and they'll look better.

I guess if you don't use the phone for much media then it isn't a huge upgrade though. Of course, then why even bother upgrading to a 4s, or a phone running android?

Also it need be mentioned that the iPhone 5 will get the brunt of the iOS upgrades with iOS 7.

iPhones hold their value far better then any other phone. You can still sell decent condition iPhone 4's for around the $180-$200 mark. How much these phones hold their value is one of their biggest positives. Every time I've upgraded I've signed on with a 2 year contract, and paid around $200 for the phone. Two years later I can sell that phone for the same/more then what I had to initially put down for it. Since I've moved to the UK though I've just outright bought the unlocked models in the US for way cheaper, and then just used them on cheap pay as you go SIMs and saved tons of money, and the phone itself is still worth a couple hundred pounds after a couple years.

Seeing as almost all other retailers do this, Apple didn't really have choice unless the customer wanted to visit two different stores to do the same thing.

Hahaha; hates Apple, takes the time constantly comment on them. You'll have to tell us, which Apple exec ran over your dog when you were a kid?

The iPhone 5 is definitely a big upgrade over the 4S. The screen quality and colors are much better on the 5, and despite the screen only being 0.5" larger, a lot more displays on the page properly. Not to mention its much lighter too, which is nice too. I compared the 5 next to a family members 4S and the screen looks really washed out.

When you consider how much of a battery life upgrade it is over the 4 and 4S and all while being thinner and lighter, as well as massively faster the 5 was a huge upgrade to me. The 4 to 4S was disappointing like none other. Just like the GS3 to GS4.
