I've been running into an odd issue with Windows 8, whenever I go to select text, or move a window around (any behavior where left-click is held down and I move the mouse) it seems to lose and then re-gain the left-click input.

i.e. I'll hold left-click and start moving a window, the system will then think I released the click, keep moving the cursor with my mouse movement, and then re-gain the click input. So i'll be moving a window, and then i lose my grip on the window and it jumps to a file in the window (that my mouse happened to go over) and decide to move that file...

any thoughts?

relatively new Win8 install, the only app I've put on recently is Launchy which I've tried disabling to no effect. Mouse is a 3 year old Logitech G9x that seems to be working fine otherwise

Do you notice any damage to the cord of the USB connector? Have you tried a different USB port or a known working mouse? Also, check the device manager. Try disabling it and then restarting your computer so that Windows will redetect it and install the driver at startup.

no damage to the mouse

I have not tried another yet

system has been rebooted several times

can't think of anything that would have damaged the cord between when it worked & failed, curious if anyone else had seen this problem... I'll grab another mouse from work to test with tomorrow though

I've experienced that problem before on various versions of Windows. Most recently with Windows 7. Generally indicates the mouse is dying. Could be the sensor is going, could be a loose connection or bad solder job, could be the wire itself. Even if the mouse looks perfectly fine, the internal circuitry could be on it's way out.

Try a new mouse in the computer, see if it still happens. Most likely you just need a new mouse.

You guys are right, it was the mouse... surprised.. never had that happen before..

It happens once in a while. Most wouldn't even consider a hardware mouse issue simply because the average mouse is so reliable that it will probably outlast 2 or 3 computers. Hell I'm currently using a basic Microsoft optical mouse. According to the sticker, it was manufactured in November 2001. Still works like a charm.
